My 2014 is pissing me off.

So far my ownership experience has been ::010::. I'm currently at 330 miles and the bike has stalled at LEAST 10 times while rolling in traffic. I could see if it was my error, stalling on take off...but we are talking clutch fully released, bike rolling at speed here. Big time safety hazard as far as I'm concerned. I live in a busy metro area, and when I need power, I NEED power or else I'll get ran over. This is my 5th brand new Yamaha purchased, and I haven't had one let me down yet...so this is troubling.

Second issue...cruise control. A HUGE deciding factor in choosing this bike over a DL1000 or a KTM Adventure was having electronic cruise. So far, it works about 50% of the time. The orange cruise light will come on, but it won't set. I've read the owners manual cover to cover multiple times, and made sure I was in the proper parameters for function. I've tried, S mode, T mode, TCS1/TCS2/TCSoff, you name it to see if anything changes...nope.

Third issue is a super nit-picky one but I'll mention it anyways. The right side dash illumination doesn't match the left side dash illumination. It's close, but really guys? Not the end of the world, but since I'm in rant mode, why not.

Whew! That is all for now.

Sounds like some connector isn't fully seated, or bad components of course.

The stalling issue is a safety issue as you mentoned. Check into your lemon laws, if I recall a dealer has three tries to fix something and if they can't the manufacturer buys it back.
I seem to remember that the cruze control will only engage in 3rd gear over 30mph, could this be the issue?

It could not be the issue. I've been through every possible gear and speed combination which are laid out in the manual to no avail. It just works or it doesn't. I'll be dropping it off at the dealer for inspection as soon as I get a day off to see what they can do. As is the case with most dealerships though, if there is no check engine light or trouble code, they are typically clueless.

Sorry to hear you're having a little difficulty. Don't let it sour you right out of the gate though. The stalling issue is noted and had happened to many in previous year models and can be addressed by either waiting until the bike is a bit more broken in (not wise in your urban situate), or by adjusting the air acrews (noted on this site) and doing a throttle body sync (simple process). When I had posted about this problem on my 14 the latter suggestion was made. As I typically ride rurally I thought I'd give it a little more time until I had to work on it for something else as it was only stalling here and there. With about 2k on it now the problem only occurred once recently and is all but gone. I'm confident that it's a growing pain that can be worked out if necessary. If you're still rolling just ease the clutch out in gear and it'll be like nothing happened.

I'm with mellow on the cruise control issue. Just sounds like something simple. Mine works flawlessly and is the most accurate of any vehicle I've owned.

As you said, the display thing is nit picking. But you shouldn't have to nit pick a new vehicle. They'll fix that pronto I'm sure.

Good luck with it. I'm certain the dealer will can take care of these annoyances. It's not the lemon it may seem...But I do understand you're disappointment. ::003::

Thanks for trying to calm me down, I'm just mad as this is the most expensive bike I've ever purchased, and expect perfection. We'll see what the dealer comes up with.

Having said that, regarding, stalling in traffic, I have had that on both, 12 and 13 model. Even after TB sync, new plugs and air screws on the 13 model. I did call yamaha and reported it for both bikes, so you should definitely report it. The more people report it to the top of the pyramid, the better. It occurred being in traffic or riding slow, bike heating up. There is a preceding audible pop as throttle is applied and it cuts out. I have not had it happen after ecu re-flash yet. I have another Jap cruiser with fly by wire and it does the same thing thing when riding in traffic, except it does not stall. Just pops and picks up from there. Unfortunately, corporate will send you to a dealer first, which may or may not turn out to be a waste of time. I sincerely hope yamaha gets this resolved before someone gets hurt.

Like Travex, my 2014 also stalled although only one time and it hasn't happened since. If it had been 10 times like you, I would also be concerned. I'm not sure how many dealers you have in your area, but if you do a dealer locator search on the Yamaha website, and click on each specific dealer, you will be able to tell which dealers have bronze, silver or gold rated technicians. If it doesn't show any of those you're probably better off taking it to one with a top rated tech and insisting that he be the one to inspect your problem. I would think that would increase your chances of a solid diagnosis and resolution.

Regarding the cruise control, yeah, something is definitely amiss there. Mine works flawlessly as Travex describes.

Good luck getting these issues resolved. It's a fantastic bike overall so I hope you persevere to the point you can begin the love affair most of us have with our STs.

Calm down, take a deep breath, soon all will be right in your world, honest!

Grab the phone call dealer and have a nice polite, civilized chat. Chances are he'll get it sorted for you soon.

I’ve stalled my 2014 a few times too but I put the blame on me for letting the clutch fully out too soon or not enough throttle. Also starting the bike after an embarrassing stall isn’t as easy since the starter is the newer slide-down style and takes a little longer.

When I look at my display standing to the left of the bike the right side does look dimmer. However when you look directly at it they match.

I haven’t had any issue with the cruise control. I <3 it!

To the others with 2014s the speedo seems pretty accurate. Mine’s always within 1-2 mph of my Garmin GPS.

I had a staller. It goes away after break in. Try running in touring mode. Mine never stalled while running around in that mode.

Can't really rant until you have given the dealer a chance to fix the issues, in the time you spent ranting you could have got it booked in to be sorted ::008::

I get your disappointment. It is a lot of money. On the other hand it won't be long before you're saying to yourself: "This thing's worth a whole lot more". Hang in there and continue to consult this forum, speak with the dealer/Yamaha, and you'll get past this minutia in no time.

The best thing about our bikes, other than being the coolest out there is the dealer network. I'm sure this will get fixed, also I have noticed a huge difference in my 12 after I broke 2500 miles it smoothed out chugging gone etc. And something woke up in the motor cause she got a big ol pair of cojones under her. Good luck, like someone said it will get fixed or it gets new!

Anyone else notice Sport being a little bit to jerky? I've been riding in Touring mainly, seems to be a bit smoother. To the Pre-14 folks, does Sport get smoother after a reflash?

It's been a while since I had the flash but it seems to me the throttle, in S mode, got more "jerky" after the ECUnleash flash. I thinks it's a result of the throttle bodies opening more quickly.....
