Also back on lane splitting, I know it is legal in California to do this now, but that does not give the motorcyclist the right to demand a path and make cars give them room does it? It seems a lot of them get angry if the cager move over for them. Maybe I don't understand the law?? Just seems like it is a huge risk on the biker to do this. ::009::
There are a couple of vehicle code violations that apply to cages, they can be ticketed for deliberately blocking a motorcyclist that is splitting. I think there are at least two VC violations applicable on the books.

Definitely good to know. It probably makes a big difference to lane split in an place where it happens so frequently and people are looking out for it and expecting it. Around here people barely look for what is in front of them much less paying attention to what could be coming up from behind them and alongside them.

Outside of Cali, DC is (I think) the only other place in the country where lane splitting is not prohibited. There is no law against it and folks will do it.
However, if pulled over, you will be cited for illegal passing, unsignaled passing, reckless operation, etc.

It, "lane sharing", goes legal here on September 1. Even when legal it will not permit silly s**t. I'm hoping it doesn't get repealed because of stupidity.

That's great news! I hope there's some kind of public awareness campaign. There are still folks in CA that think it's illegal here.

Is that throughout Texas, or just in the perpetually under construction DFW metro area?

I did a google search and the results only said that the senate bill was was being presented, not that it had passed. So, you are saying it did, which is great. Just be careful, going to take several years for people to accept and acclimate to it.

I read the bill, and it said the traffic had to be moving 20 mph or less, and you can not pass more than 5 mph more than the traffic. Yikes! At least it is a start.

Hot off of the presses:

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the operation and movement of motorcycles on certain
highways during periods of traffic congestion.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 545.060, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as
follows:
(a) An operator on a roadway divided into two or more
clearly marked lanes for traffic:
(1) shall drive as nearly as practical entirely within
a single lane, except as provided by Subsection (e); and
(2) may not move from the lane unless that movement can
be made safely.
(e) The operator of a motorcycle operating on a
limited-access or controlled-access highway may operate the
motorcycle for a safe distance between lanes of traffic moving in
the same direction during periods of traffic congestion if the
operator operates the motorcycle:
(1) at a speed not more than five miles per hour
greater than the speed of the other traffic; and
(2) in traffic that is moving at a speed of 20 miles
per hour or less.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.

I take no credit for it, since I didn't have a part in the decision of being born.

But thanks mom. Thanks dad.
But I REALLY wanna thank ya for having us (7) in Texas. ::013::

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely enjoy so much of this planet. In fact, I'm soaking in the bliss of the summer-time Rockies as I type.
But if ya just gotta dig a well, put in a septic, and declare a homestead, you could do much worse.

Hope the bill passes.
Won't really benefit me though.
I avoid stop-n-go like a plaque.

Living and working on the Isle of Man I see a lot of Bikers out there trying to emulate their WSB heroes, they just haven't got the same skill level unfortunately and it often ends in years or worse, That said, I've been riding bikes for 35yrs and have seen some really stupid car drivers as well, I T boned a car once, certainly not my fault, I was well within the speed limit and no amount of safe driving in the world would have saved me when he pulled out in front of me, what saved me from serious injury was the pure fact that I wasn't ring like a t__t, there's good and bad on both sides, I can see your point though.

Subsection E is a perfect description of how lane sharing/filtering should work, not the way that many think they have the right to. Hope it gets signed into the books.
