If memory serves , his first service should be about 1/3 the cost of ST... )
Not aimed at you or anyone, just a general rant. Yes, the kind of info you want would be immensely more useful. But I think the very nature of a 'journalist' is to write a lot about nothing. They are paid opinion pieces slanted by the advertisers goals. And as you well stated, the opinions of people that didn't pay for the bike and only have it for a short time aren't all that useful. Not sure if you were aiming your response at me EricV.
I agree. It's hard to decide which reviews to believe nowadays, but as far as the Tenere goes, it made in Japan, and....how many miles does Long Haul Paul have? Nothing else I need to know. The problem with bike mags, and all other reviews,is that they are reviewing new products.
I actually want to know how that bike/car/tv/washing machine etc etc is going 5/6/7 years down the track....
I got confused, when did we start talking about the Kardashians?….They really should be publicly humiliated at every turn and laughed at as incompetents w/o enough drive and skill to learn some useful function in the world....
As with all bikes, some tires are more suited to individual bikes than others. I personally never had that issue. I put 162k on my '04A. 10-18k was normal for my front tires. 10-12k for rears. Sport-Touring tires, not Sport tires. Engine braking? Sounds like your friend rode a BMW before and didn't understand inline fours. It's funny to me, considering all the riders whining about too much engine braking on the Super Ten. They don't understand twins. It's all about how you use it.FJR is a nice bike a friend rode one for years. He only had 3 complaints. It ate front tires, the seat, he was to cheap to buy a replacement, and anemic engine breaking.
Especially if you include the FJ. With the exception of a short hiatus, the FJ/FJR has been here since '84.I don't think you need to worry just yet Fennellg. Look at how long that un-popular FJR has hung around.
I don't understand FRONT tires. I didn't have much problem with either tire, but my skinny ass kid has trouble with REAR tires. I told him he's not heavy enough to keep it from spinning....He only had 3 complaints. It ate front tires....
Agreed. I didn't articulate it correctly. I'm 300lbs, love using my front brake, the FJR is NOT a light bike, and I didn't burn through the fronts hardly at all. That being said, cupping doesn't bother me, and I'm anal about my tire pressure. I found that the ST1300 was more prone to cupping than the FJR. (I may have abused it more though)Riders typically burn through front tires due to low pressure or cupping. Cupping is mostly from braking into corners, especially downhill ones.
About the only publication I buy now, and seriously considering kicking it into touch after reading the article this week by "Neil Murray" the used bike expert who has a column every week telling us about the best used bargains etc, the heading this week is "Copycat used bargains" first he is citing Triumphs Trophy 1200 tourer as a copycat of a BMWR1200RT that failed to capture the market and is a good bike and a great used bargain, then goes on to say he'd be happy to bet the S10 wont be long for this world, as it has failed as a copycat BMWR1200GS and asks why buy it when you can have a GS?......No wonder the S10 doesnt sell when dickhead journos like him spout shit in that rag of a newspaper, and the road testers from the same paper slated the S10 the same when it was launched and really drove the knife home for a great machine that has a different engine configuration for a start if it's a copycat? Well I'd be happy to bet he hasn't even cocked a leg over an S10 either, so his opinion is worth doodly squat, and I sincerely hope his next shit is a hedgehog followed by pineapple!!! Rant Over!
MSN are probably the most biased reviewers out there, they are getting well payed from BMW ,I wouldn’t buy any bike based on MSN reviews.About the only publication I buy now, and seriously considering kicking it into touch after reading the article this week by "Neil Murray" the used bike expert who has a column every week telling us about the best used bargains etc, the heading this week is "Copycat used bargains" first he is citing Triumphs Trophy 1200 tourer as a copycat of a BMWR1200RT that failed to capture the market and is a good bike and a great used bargain, then goes on to say he'd be happy to bet the S10 wont be long for this world, as it has failed as a copycat BMWR1200GS and asks why buy it when you can have a GS?......No wonder the S10 doesnt sell when dickhead journos like him spout shit in that rag of a newspaper, and the road testers from the same paper slated the S10 the same when it was launched and really drove the knife home for a great machine that has a different engine configuration for a start if it's a copycat?
