Sorry to hear about your fall and injury. Hope you have a full and speedy recovery. I broke my wrist about 18 years ago due to a horse crash about 80 yard down a stepp slope. I stupidly never had it properly set, so now i have a great barometer. Never fails to tell me when there is a front moving through. Get Well Soon ! :)

My God, man. Take it super easy on that right hand til May. You're not going to be able to actuate those linked brakes if you can't squeeze that front brake. Glad it was your wrist, though, and not your neck joint.

Hmmmm, looks very similar! They had mine open a few days ago for a re-wrap.

How did you do for regaining mobility?

I did a few months of work after the fixation was removed but could only get my hand to 90 degrees (thumb up, no supination at all). When I broke the bone it shortened a bit so they had to take 1/2" out of the other bone (ulna). I now have about 85% supination, pronation is fine.

AFAIK, mine should be the same length as before my fall! ;) I'm hoping for near-full mobility, but that will only come with time and therapy. I'm wondering if being older will have bearing on what may have been had I been younger.

Just keep at the therapy! Also be sure to rub the skin over the spots where the pins were. If not the skin will stick to the bone (guess how I know this...).

Stick to the bone - or to the pins? Had my first therapy yesterday (finger movement only) and it went pretty well. Also learned that I need to clean and re-dress the injury daily, so my wife was none too excited........ She doesn't do blood, etc very well.

The skin can stick to the bone - after the pins are removed.

I didn't start therapy until the fixation was removed. I also didn't have to re-dress my stuff at all during the 8 weeks it was on (maybe they did it once or twice).

Good luck and keep on it. You'll need to be ready for spring!!

I talked to my doc this PM and he indicated we would not need to do the daily clean/re-dress as long as the full wrap was on. Later (probably next week), they will only cover the areas where the pins/incisions are and do away with all the bulky wrapping. At that time we will need to routinely clean those areas.

Thanks Ed!!! Another 2 weeks until my next appoinment. Xrays are scheduled for then and hopefully they will have a timeline for removing this cumbersome traction bar after review.

I wanna GO RIDE!!!!!

Yesterday was a good day indeed!! Had my scheduled 6 week followup appointment with my Doc - along with X-rays.

The appointment went well and the Doc thought the break area looked VERY good. The fixture came off along with the pins and now the therapy begins. Removal of the pins was a little dicey, but all in all, pretty painless. At least I survived it! Therapy starts Thursday and I will go at least twice a week for the next 4 weeks (or more). Movement of the wrist is pretty limited and a fair amount of pain if I go very far with motion. This will get better and I NEED to flex and work it.

At this point, I would have a very hard time just blipping the throttle on my bike, but hopefully this will all change over the coming weeks and months. The Doc thought (with therapy) I should regain 80-90% mobilty in the wrist. I can live with that!!!

:)
