OK, the bike is finally paid for, now to add the extras. I know I have seen it on here before but I cant seem to find what I'm looking for. I want to add crash bars and skid plate lighting etc. First things first, so far Ive been lucky and still have the radiator intact, the "dumps" Ive done have been minor but protection is at the top of my list. I see the Yamaha factory bars on ebay, are they any good? and skid plate, looking for something reasonable. I don't use this bike for single track but forestry roads, gravel etc is more my style.
Looking for advice, thanks

Lots of personal preferances. Really can depend on how much money you have to spend. I ride mine pretty much the way you are talking about doing and have the Alt-Rider crash bars and skid plate as a "middle of the road" set up. I have had several "crashes" in the dirt and sand (low speed), and the crash bars have been great. A little paint at home and the scratches on the bars disappear. And have not had any other damage to the bike.

The only thing to make sure of is whatever skid plate you buy, make sure it is frame mounted, not oil pan. Lot safer.

I think HeliMark was right on the mark. ::014:: Sorry. When you are obtaining information and making your choice, consider the ease of oil changes and the removal of side panels. Lots to choose from. Good luck. R.

I dress to crash. So my body is ATGATT.
I dress my Tenere to crash too. :)
Looks like an F350 with Ranch Hand gear hanging all around.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think welded pipe with lots of bends and bolts is sexy. In a John Wayne kind of way. :)

Even pannier racks without the panniers look right on this RTW Beast.

Very happy with my Givi crash bars, tested a few times, really work well and I like the way they look. They were one of the least expensive bars. Just added the ACD skid plate and i think it is an excellent skid plate for a reasonable amount of money. Actually the best buy you can make for the dollars. You can buy off of ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/161270670123?lpid=82

I tested the skid plate on a series of off road trails in Death Valley and can attest to its strength and good mounting system.

Thanks for the input. I have been looking at the factory yamaha bars on ebay for around $350. But Im wondering if they will protect the side fairings. Anyone have them and had used them??? Still looking at the Rumbux, tourtech and Alt rider bars and bash plate. Everything seems to be about the same price, around $750ish.

ACD listed at $349 but they will take an offer of $290. Givi bars from Revzilla $220. Done for $510. Well protected. The ACD mounts up on the same bolts as the Givi bars. No problems and posted on this site. search ACD thread ::012::

I have the Puig crash bars. $162 from Revzilla. Quality is good. Thick powder coating and quality welds. Good coverage to lower engine side as well as plastic above. Much, much better quality than the Givis I ordered and sent back. Thin coating and terrible welds. As well as heavy. Can't beat the price ether.

Thanks! Those are exactly what I need. They might have saved some damage on the Dempster Dump last year

I couldn't find Givis on Revzilla, but they do have Puigs.

Givi crash bars from compacc.com $197.00 with free shipping. Mount these in reverse order of directions by putting engine brackets on first then side bars.

Tomorrow....I ride... No mater what the weather. ::26:: ::26::By the way. I'm really sick of 40 deg. and rain. It's been that way for 2 weeks now.
