So far, on the Tenere, the tire that lasted ME the longest was a Michelin Anakee 2 at 8k miles.

7500 mile trip for ME would mean a tire change somewhere along the road.

so far on all threads ive seen on tires they are like women thier value depends on mostly on who is riding them.most people will try out a few differnt kinds and settle on what they like and defend that choice regardless of others opinions ;D.{hope that doesnt sound worse in print than i intended it}

Any suggestions on the best place to purchase the K60s?
Jaxon can get you set up.

The main worry for me is that I do not want to get a flat. I run fast dirt roads and sometimes there are buried rocks, not an issue except when the tread is worn after a few thousand miles. I have 7K on my K60's and there is plenty of tread left, likely they will go another 6,000.

I just got an email from Bike Bandit. They have them for $294 shipped to my door right now.

I think Jaxon at Ride On is the "un-OFFICIAL" K60 supplier for YST.

Another vote for the Pilot Road 3 Trails.

I just returned from a 7000 mile trip comprised mainly of twisties (including Beartooth Pass) and high speed secondary roads. The PR3s performed exceptionally well when pushed to the limit especially in the rain. They have a tad over 7k on them now and the rear is squaring off slightly and might go another 1k.

Switch, there is a reason the majority of the posts recommend the K-60. You can TOUR all you want on it. The added benefit is that it does pretty well of road too. You will not get a higher mileage tire regardless of where you ride, or how you ride. The Shinko 705 makes for a great front tire, (if you want something a little quieter than the K-60 front), that can rail with the best of the street only tires, but you know that already. Actually, you can use any front you like, because they will all go the distance. It's just that the Shinko is THAT good, at an exceptional price.

I put on a set of PR3s prior to my 5000 mile round trip to Colorado. The tires were great and don't even look half worn in spite of doing Kansas (twice) in 101 degree heat at 80mph. Nearly 1K of the trip was two up with my wife in the mountains. The tires are amazingly good and 100% confidence inspiring. I had the PR2's on my CBR and they were awesome on that bike too.

My current set of K-60s have over 22k miles and will most likely go to 27k. The last set went just shy of 30k, and wasn't quite at the wear bars.

Chris, How in the hell do you get this? You must use really easy, steady throttle. Awesome!

The dude can ride?
And, no doubt, he DOES ride. Even while we sleep. :)

And yes, I suspect he is very smooth. And his suspension is dialed in.
Pure Harmony on 2-wheels.

Me? Forgettaboutit.

Put me in the BattleWing 501 + 502 (E) class...

I just bought my third set.

I am getting +13000 outta my front & +9000 outta my rear.

Almost all tarmac

All at + legal speeds 70% of the time and even a lot of slab (*sadly*)

I'm surprised I am saying this but I am sold on this matchup = Tenere (*OEM suspension*) & the 501/502 combo

I'm jealous, that's all I can say. If I can get in 20k miles a year, I'm very happy. This year has been crazy for me. I won't get any decent weekends to ride until September and October...

Hey, I thought this was a long distance tire touring tire thread!

Snakebitten= Tire Whore! LoL! But it's a good deal for the rest of us, because he can give you the skinny on just about any tire out there.

Jeff,

One of the really great things about the K-60s is how much tread you start with! I've never measured, but it's got to be at least double or triple the tread of most tires. I do go easy on the throttle and the brakes, but I'm not shy about cornering, etc when conditions are right once the bike is moving. The Tenere's seating position helps a lot - you can see so far ahead in traffic that backing off the gas a little, downshifting, and picking the lane that looks like it will get (or keep) moving quicker often means that I don't need to come to a stop. I've turned it into a little game to keep things more interesting. My commute also makes a difference - 120 miles/day, of which only 4 or 5 miles are downtown type riding and 15ish miles of stop 'n go on the way home. On the highway I tend to run 75 mph indicated unless the limit is 70 or higher - then I keep the indicated speed 10 over the limit.

On a trip in late May I went through WI, MN, ND, SD, MT, WY, NE, CO, and IA on the way home from Chicago on these tires. The significantly higher than usual speeds definitely increased the wear rate. Unfortunately, I don't get the opportunity to make it West of the Mississippi very often.

Best,

Chris

It appears, based on other tire threads in other forums, that commuting miles are not as hard on the tires as people would think. People who use their bikes for a lot of commuting usually get pretty good mileage. I've managed 11k and 13k out of an early Continental Road Attacks on my Sprint. 11k out of a Metzeler on the Norge I used to own, I pulled 11.5 k out of a set of Michelin PR's (the original one) on the Tiger I used to own. I know Sail2xxs still manages to outdo the mileage I get on my tires, but that is my experience.

I have 14k miles on my K60's and they still have quite a bit of life left in them.
