Agree, but reducing the odds as you put it it a good thing. On another note, but to reduce the odds of an accident or crash in this case.. what can one do to reduce the odds or chances of having an accident.
Here's my spin:
1.) Maintain your bike (brakes and tyres.)
2.) Wear hi-viz PROTECTIVE GEAR, boots, pants with armor, jacket with armor, quality riding gloves and of course an approved helmet.
3.) Avoid riding at night...critters.
4.) Never drink and ride.
So we can be safer in several ways.
The average rider has a greater chance of death or injury than contracting CV-19

In the UK we have an "essential travel only" order in place. Essential being defined as shopping for food, medication or to place of work that when that job can't be done from home and suitable social distancing and cleanliness requirements have been put in place. The theory being that if you just stay at home then all of the risks you highlight just don't exist. The odds of accident, breakdown and critter contact are zero. I know the rules in your country are different but the theory still holds good. To paraphrase Mr Myagi "the best way to avoid an accident is to not be there." Further, the best way to avoid spreading covid is don't take it anywhere.

you have to have it to spread it.... was out and about yesterday saw lots of people also out and about. most had mask on , all practiced social distancing .... sat in a hamburger joint with my son and enjoyed a burger (only people in the restaurant was me and my son ) and it was good . today I am meeting a friend for breakfast and then we are off to the track to ride dirt bikes . going to cook up some hotdogs while there and hopefully have a fun day in the sun . and it will be sunny with a temp of 80 for a high (its Texas so have to take advantage of the cool weather ) conditions are dry . bike and gear already on truck ,need to put charcoal cooker and ice chest in truck this morning and its off I go . and on the way home I will stop and see my 84 year old mom for a mothers day visit . actually went to see her yesterday , she made a roast with potatoes and carrots and fried okra ,corn on the cob , Mac and cheese and potato salad , home made bread with a home made banana pudding for desert . the best mothers day is were mom cooks for her son (its her idea and its what she wants to do ) besides I cannot really take her to a restaurant in the current conditions . now she and her old lady gang may drive themselves some where today , she is pretty independent and un afraid . now no one wants to catch a thing that might kill them and she is know different , but she also values her freedom ( the good news in the county she lives in only 6 cases known ) and she knows to limit her exposure . she is trying to live the life she has left to her best self. and that's all any one can do .

I went out for a horse ride yesterday, and no on is social distancing here. I seen big camps of 8+ huge fifth wheel camp trailers in circles. Out of state license plates. One big group 20+ even parked on the trail. We had to go off the trail toget around them.

Went in the gas station to grab a drink for the ride and the parking lot was full. Out of state people buying lottery tickets.

I am of the opinion that these so called “masks” are a feel good placebo. What happens when he material becomes saturated with moisture? Your still forcing air through the cloth. If the mask is damp, is the air still carrying water droplets? How about when you touch a surface that someone else just touched, and then touch your mask to rearrange it back in place. And if your in your car all alone, what good is a mask going to do you?

I would say that “masks” are giving people a false sense of security, now they are out congregating in groups. Well not only that, they are tired of isolation, and are starting to congregate anyway. Just my recent observation.

....replaced with the odds of falling down the stairs, slipping in the bathtub, etc. The point being that one cannot mitigate the level of risk to 0%, so one determines their own individual risk tolerance and accepts the residual risk. Sorry to hear that you guys are basically prisoners in your own homes. While I strongly believe that we should all act responsibly and follow published guidelines for the sake of ourselves and others, I have a big problem with the state mandating that we do so under penalty of prosecution. (I mean no disrespect, that's just the liberty-loving American coming out in me.) Stay safe and healthy!

I headed out a 0530 this morning for my 2.9 mile crutch walk. The regular morning group of my neighbors walking and jogging almost all wear masks. I find if I leave any later then there are a whole other group of idiots that are jogging and mountain biking with no masks. Starting Tuesday I'm going to use the paved part of the park and see if it's any better to give me more space.

FWIW, The things I'm doing to prevent the virus are my own common sense approaches to prevention of contracting and spreading the virus. I don't have a problem at all with the state mandating the rules we are to follow. I actually think they are too relaxed.

Here is a little tip I can share with glasses wearers. Simply secure the top of your mask with surgical tape to prevent fogging of your glasses. It works really good!!

Thanks, that's a great idea.
I'm not wearing a mask, but we live in a sparsely populated area . We are able to (fortunately) keep our distance from others.
However, some are just not getting it. This morning while on my walk, I paused and spoke with another walker at a safe distance. Well, along comes two joggers, a mother and son I think. Both of them ran very close past me huffing and puffing. I dressed them down verbally, but no reaction, you can't fix stupid. Next time, someone will get a sharp elbow in the ribs.

If you're not prepared to wear a mask you can't criticize others for not wearing them either. Also consider that if they ran right past you, is that because the footway was narrow and you and your friend was essentially obstructing it to others getting past? Shouting at others will emit plenty of hot air too. I'm not criticising you Shumba, but to some people reading your posts may be forgiven for thinking that you are no better than the people you feel entitled to give a dressing down to. To get through this and still be alive it's probably best to consider what you can do to eliminate or minimise the risks, rather than telling others what to do. Stay safe my friend, it's a jungle out there!

Hi Tallpaul,
Many thanks for input and response to my experience the other morning.
I believe that you live in the U.K. somewhere. I live in Canada, a very similar nation. The joggers had plenty of space and opportunity to avoid myself and the woman I was talking to, however it was their God given right to continue running past us in a very close proximity. Both of the joggers were much younger than both myself and the woman I was conversing with.
Secondly, if younger people refuse to comply with the current recommendations and in some countries laws then, a sharp poke in the ribs would be justified as self defense.

elbow to the ribs , that would be a crime . might get a greater reaction from the assaulted person , self defense response. and you would be in the wrong.
Not sure where you live Mr. Hatter.
Outcomes differ.
In these difficult times, if ignorant people refuse to distance themselves, then they will have to take their lumps, in the ribs that is. Maintain your distance and be respectful of others.

And so the virus will return in full force.
I sincerely hope not.

People need a place to roam, particularly now in these current times, however; sadly a percentage of them just don't have any respect for other people and will fail to keep their distance from others.
You can create laws or whatever, but my solution remains, a sharp poke in the ribs will send a message.

an assault is an assault , attacking some one for not wearing a mask or what ever will lead to bad places ..... Shumba I live in the land of the free and the home of the brave (sort of ) or it used to be . some states still are others not so much . but one can wear his mask and ignore the others . I keep a mask with me but have not had to wear it in weeks , I am able to keep my distance with out much trouble here.
