Good question, baliisticexchris. Prior to mounting it I kept an eye on the 'rings' on the fork to determine the extent of fork compression as it was a concern. What I ended up doing was using a piece of 1/4" x 2" x 7"-ish piece of stock plus washers to place on top of the factory bracket to take it up just a bit more. A thinner piece of stock bent/braked into a gull-wing would also do nicely here. Could only go up so high as you'll notice the OEM bars. As it's set back, any higher and the light would be eclipsed and cut off at the top. The current gap is just over 7-1/8" which has worked well for 32k miles. W/o the factory bars there still would be a little more height to eke out. It's wired through an FZ1 Fuzeblock to it's own switch and I do use a cover as some states/provinces are strict on these. The amount, temperature, and dispersion pattern of its light is a game changer and has no doubt saved me grief.
You'll notice the disparity in color temp between the headlamps and aux lights. Just rec'd a set of 70w, 65k, 5k-lm Novsights yesterday which I'm sure will also improve things considerably. I've read a couple comments that indicate the lights bars aren't needed any longer with them. I'll take the extra light and be happy with it.
