Caution, Long!
Had an accident and had to replace my Jesse Luggage Odyssey's panniers. I saw on their website that they now had Challenger and Odyssey series Panniers.
When I called to ask what the differences were I was told the Odyssey's are no longer available or being made. I then asked what the differences were between the Odyssey's and the Challengers and was told they had redesigned the lids so they were not as tall and they had reduced the angles on the bottom of the cases. I asked if there were any differences to the mounting since I saw there was different hardware and was told just the hardware had changed.
When I went to install them, found that the front of the right Jesse pannier now interfered with the right side passenger peg, even with the pannier mounted as far back as you can get it, you could not put the peg back. (See pics.) Compared the mounting positions of the hardware between the Odyssey's and the Challengers and found the lower Delrin mounting had been moved back 3", as you may know, the mounting rack consists of two oblong loops offset by 3" so you can move the pannier forward or back about 12 " to balance the load on your bike. (One of the features that differentiates Jesse from other pannier suppliers) That capability was no longer there. with the passenger peg extended it only gave you room to move it about 2" from the farthest back position and you loose the ability to carry a passenger since the pannier is now against to peg.
Contacted Jesse luggage and was told they would look into it, since they had a Tenere there they were installing a set of Challenger panniers on. They got back to me later that day and confirmed they found the same issue. They told me the only options were to grind off the end of the passenger peg so it could clear the Jesse pannier, or I or they could re-drill and relocate the bottom mounting Delrin 3" forward like where it was mounted on the Odyssey's. I told them that was an unacceptable solutions since I had paid for New Panniers, not panniers that would now have extra holes in them. They told me they were not willing to make "Custom Panniers" just for me. I was thinking what about all the rest of the Tenere owners that buy your panniers, are they all "Custom" ? They also were not willing to take them back since they had been installed.
This shows the bottom Delrin mounting block as far back as you can get it without re-drilling the pannier.
We had settled on a refund of 200.00 dollars since I was going the re-drill the slotted lower mounting holes for the Delrin mounting blocks instead of me sending them back to them to re-drill them. I was told someone would contact me to arrange for the refund. This has not happened nor have they responded to e-mails and voicemails since.
If you are thinking off buying Panniers from Jesse Luggage be warned, They don not fit the 2014+ Tenere ES any longer.
