Fender extenders catching skid plates and locking up the steering is an old issue!
And it breaks the fender.
My skid plate is the original (and after some opinion, useless), and it seems like it is much closer to the engine, than the one shown on picture.
I really hope it wont give me any trouble. I don't think so, unless it is really stock up with mud ???

Well crap I just wanted to know if the ST was going to be around for another year.

I guess it is so I'm outta here.
Sorry, wfopete. I did not mean to hijack your thread! It was just a good segway to something I was curious about asking.

Heckuva way to treat our friend WFOPete after he starts his annual thread about the S10 no longer being in production for the next year. :D

I can't imagine riding in your country and not running some of the pot-holed gravel roads. We've had people who lost their oil after the front wheel put a rock up into the oil pan because the stock plastic skid plate was insufficient. Even the cheapest aftermarket aluminum one will keep you from being stranded in the high roads.

Love the natural grass roofs on this gravel road.

Hmm, my new 2017 S10 already have outside air temperature, and slipper clutch.
But maybe it is exactly the one from the FJR that means?

And I have put on an extender to the front fender.

Slipper Clutch. Really. Never heard that one.

Uh a misunderstanding...it is not the stock plastic thing...but an original bought Yamaha alu-skid plate.

Last week I tested a Multistrada Enduro to see if it was worth changing my ST for the "ultimate" adventure bike. It sure was powerful, but had an engine as rough as a bag of spanners, mirrors that blurred so much you couldn't see what was behind and it was like sitting on a washing machine on fast spin. I decided I'd have another ST, saving £7k in the process, but my local dealer advised against buying now because he understood that there would be a major revision to the ST unveiled at the Milan Show in November. He was so disinterested in selling me a 17 ST that I left and bought one over the phone at a dealership 200 miles away. I just don't want an "improved" one because it works so well as it is.

I'm just thinking that if Yamaha did make major changes it wouldn't be for the better.
All the other brands just keep chasing the horse power game and getting further away from a true "do it all" BDBITW bike.

I agree and it's why I said the bike already hits most of what I want. My biggest concerns are (1) that in trying to gain horsepower they hurt the power off idle, and (2) they lengthen the swingers or change the steering head to make it more for the highway folks. Outside of that and seeing how little the FJR concept has changed, it'll hopefully just be new plastic and refinements.

What Poo and Xtine just wrote was interesting. It's the first we've heard from somebody actually associated with Yamaha that a Gen3 is coming out soon. Till now it's been an educated guess.

Yup! When I went to buy my Jeep, the salesman told me to wait six months until the '12s arrived; better engine. I did because the then current engine WAS weak. "I" don't see any weakness in my/the '17, so I wouldn't wait either. What Checkswrecks wants are "tweaks" to a great machine. What pooh and xtine's salesman insinuated sounds like a drastic change. To me anyway. Y'all enjoy. ::001::

Had a '14ES then a Multistrada now a '17ES. I have been accused of having an aggressive riding style and the S10 is fine as it is. Big horsepower numbers and usable street power are very different things.

I'm thinking what might be introduced at the Milan show is the MT-07 based ADV ride. I can't see Yamaha sinking big development costs into re-doing the ST at this point. I'm hoping any changes are minor ones.
At any rate, I love my '16 ES and have no plans to switch.

They refresh 2-3 models a year. The Tenere now has 4 years on the Gen2 version, so we are due for the next one.
