I have not really been paying attention but...

It was the same for the 2017. I think I may have already received the bike before I saw articles on it. Even my dealer was in the dark, and that was even later in the year (2016). He knew he was getting the 2017s, but had no information on them.

wfopete, what makes you think the Super Tenere is going away in 2018? Where did you get this information?

Does this mean there will be a 2018 model or is the 2017 model the last year?

I thought I read here; that it wasn't going to be in the 2018 line up. Backed up by folks speculating something about Yamaha production cyclic stuff. I called my local dealer and they (as usual) don't have a clue until 2018 crates start showing up on thier loading dock. I know Yamaha is working on a mid displacement model and I was afraid they might not offer a 1200cc Tenere' for 2018.

So like I said I hadn't been paying attention, so I thought I'd ask the Tenere' crowd.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly there was a big discussion here about "changes" to the Tenere being based on Yamaha's "change" cycle. There was speculation on what year changes were due to be made. Personally I don't NEED any changes, so I get to save my money. ::001::

I have not rode a Gen 1, but I know that "I" think my stock '17 is perfect the way it is. But, I'm easy to please. I'm sure they'll make an '18, but I don't know if they'll change it. :)

LOL
This post is early for the annual "Are they discontinuing the bike?" Every darned year. Seriously, the Tenere has become one of the low volume steady sellers like the FJR, which has gone through the same speculative cycle for 14 years since 2003. Looking at the typical company refresh cycle and knowing what they already just refreshed, there ought to be a Gen3 bike in the Fall.

Yamaha is extremely tight lipped and we generally hear nothing till it comes out. The exception to this is when Yamaha actually wants to judge the market for a new model, like they have been doing with each of the 700cc iterations.

Soooo... Now that we are talking about the potential Gen 3, what would be on your wishlist for changes Checkswrecks?

My wish list:
LED headlights
Slight bump in HP maybe (to keep the It's under powered" reviews away)
Updated instrument cluster. Color LCD and anti-glare screen. A few new readings like voltmeter, outside air temp (instead of air box temp), etc.
USB port(s) along with the 12v plug
Switchable on the fly traction control (this is a perennial one)
re-work the aerodynamics for less buffeting, better/smoother air flow. New screen/winglets/etc.
re-work the accessory bar to have less vibration.

The bike already hits most everything I'm looking for so my list would be pretty simple.
Better headlights for sure. LED like the FJR got.
My second biggest nit is that the left grip trigger is not the high beam trigger, which has been the norm for a lot of other bikes for a long long time. I totally understand that the current high beam rocker switch costs less to make, but it still irks me that the trigger for the index finger doesn't do what is "normal."
More clearance between the front fender and tire so mud can't lock up the tire.
A narrow frame mounted mud guard in front of the engine for the stripe that the tire creates.
We all mount a phone &/or GPS, so a built-in 2 amp USB plug would be nice.
A couple of extra fuse slots for accessories or one with higher current to add an aux panel
Tire pressure sensors would be great. Same with a display of volts.
An anti-knock sensor since people already use regular gas.
The only big-buck improvement that would be nice (not necessary) would be the FJR's slipper clutch to ease the clutch pull.

Like everybody says. . .
Maybe less weight and more horsepower, but not at the expense of losing the current torque and low rpm performance.
A switch to disable the ABS just to shut up all the people who insist on one.

Ohh. ya, forgot about TPMS.. add that to my idea of the fancy color display read outs too,

Great list! For my riding style I am definitely in agreement on the auxiliary fuse block, USB port, TPMS. Unfortunately I don't live in an area where I can get real gnarly off road so the off road stuff on your list won't really bother me, but I think your are right on point for the guys who do offroad regularly.

I think from my experience I would maybe add better/more adjustable wind protection. It would be sweet if they had something as flexible and easy to adjust as the Madstad. I found the stock windscreen adjustment pretty clumsy and not easy to adjust. All in all though, most of the things I would want are pretty darn minor when you think about it. Nothing major is wrong with the Gen2 that I can think of..... Good problem to have.

Hmm, my new 2017 S10 already have outside air temperature, and slipper clutch.
But maybe it is exactly the one from the FJR that means?

And I have put on an extender to the front fender.

Fender extenders catching skid plates and locking up the steering is an old issue!
And it breaks the fender.

that temperature is the temperature of the inside of your aid filter box. not much uses. it can be anywhere from close the ambiant air or much over when riding slow or in traffice.

they need to add a sensor that actually gets ambient air temp from outside of the engine heat

Yes, that is correct. But my (short) expirense, is that is is quit accurate. Unless of course the first minutes after start driving.
But I did misunderstand it a little bit ;)

Maybe they fixed the thermometer sensor for the 17 model then? I know mine is rarely even close to correct.
