How many have received the new Clutch basket and what do you think?

Guessing your bike was still under warranty to get that price.

I agree being under new bike warranty played a big part. I ordered the basket 6-19 at the price mentioned and had already agreed to paying for all parts & labor. Yamaha picking up the labor was a big surprise.

Autoteach - What type of riding do you primarily do with your S10? I think that might play a big part.

I ride primarily street and never really change from the default tc1. I haven't notice any difference with the Traction Control and the bike takes off alot nicer than it did with the old basket.

could it be that if you're on anything less than black top, you might feel that tc1 is kicking in more often because of the more direct and smooth power delivered to the rear wheels?

Street, aggressive throttle. I will film it when I get a chance. Maybe I can run DanP's bike back to back on the camera so that I can show the difference. I will ask him the next time I see him. Honestly, though, it is a fairly big difference, and makes tc1 all but useless on the street for someone that would like to get on the throttle and have low front end weight acceleration without the bike going into hysteresis.

Just had my upgraded clutch basket installed today, along with the new CCT. I am gobsmacked by how much smoother the bike feels now. I just had a short ride home from the dealer, but so far, I am really pleased with the new basket. ::003::

Hi,

Had my clutch basket replaced with a 2014 model. The annoying vibrations between 3000 and 4000 rpm are totally gone. ::008::

I just put the CCT and clutch basket in today. I took a ride yesterday and spent some time in that 3-4K rpm range so a before and after comparison would be fresh in my head. I just always figured the vibration in that range was because it was a big twin and that was just how it was going to be. Wow, what a difference. I played in the 3-4K range today and there is no vibration at all. This really is a game changer for riding comfort. I got the basket at the cheap price, but if I had to pay full price for one now, it would be worth it. As far as the CCT goes, that noise at cold start up is gone.

After reading your scenario, I rode mine again with an eye toward any difference I could feel with the new clutch. Tried TC1 and TC2 in various situations and could not detect any difference than before the basket change.
This is going out on a limb, but could this be a coincidence? Maybe whatever this traction control feeling is that you're experiencing just started to happen after your basket swap, but has nothing to do with it? Before you pull all your hair out, maybe you should put the old basket back in and see if the problem goes away. 45 minutes labor could tell you a lot. For the confirmation test ride with the old basket, you could use the same gasket and nut again, and then worry about new stuff when, or if, you decide to leave the old one in, or put the new one back in.

A couple of months ago I bought a leftover new 2013 Super Tenere. The bike had the suspect vibration right from the beginning; it wasn't something that needed time to develop. Today, I had the 2014 clutch basket installed, and the vibration is gone. I had a little over 2,000 miles on it when the clutch basket was swapped out. The difference is very obvious. I'm relieved I didn't waste my money/time on the wrong fix!

Also, before I bought the 2014 clutch basket, I asked the dealer to try to get Yamaha to cover it under warranty. The service manager never had this situation come up and got back to me the next day after getting the chance to contact the rep. He said that Yamaha would only replace the clutch basket under warranty if it failed. And, if it failed, they would replace it with the same type of clutch basket, not the updated clutch basket. I never expected Yamaha to cover it under warranty, but I figured no harm in asking just in case I got lucky. However, I'm surprised that if there was a warranty issue, that they would still use the older clutch basket.

Anyway, long story short, the 2014 clutch basket fixed the problem for me!

Autoteach has a good idea about filming the difference between his bike and my stock 2013. It would be interesting to see and share the change. Maybe we can get together on this next week.

Installed clutch basket two days ago. CCT was replaced 06/14 as part of valve adjustment ( 53,000 mi). Engine nirvana? Smooth and quiet. Yay!

Finally got my basket and CCT installed last night... I had a 'buzzy' basket... Mine had a pretty hard vibe at 3K that I've has as long as I can remember. And this last year my CCT has been clacking on start up... Well, as everyone has said before, add my name to the list, everything is GONE and SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH.... It really is pretty darn unbelievable.. Its as if im riding a different brand, different bike.... Because I had a "bad" basket, this new one made a WORLD of difference !

Just a side note: on part (Rod, Push 1 4KG-16356-00-00) I had a bit of wear, where the ball comes into contact with the end of the push rod... I might replace this part next year or another 25K.

Also, part: ( O-Ring 93210-06632-00) is very worn compared to a brand new O-ring. Mine was the second one I've seen that looks totally different than a new O-ring from Yamaha. The one that came out of the bike was 'square'. Flat top, flat square sides.. The new O-ring from Yamaha is round, like a normal O-ring.... You might want to eye-ball this when you have this part out.....

I replaced the O-Ring and ball while I was in there......... Other than that, it was really unbelievable that I could not see any wear on the old basket / plates or even the Barnett pressure plate. After 10-12K miles on that Barnett pressure plate it looks as if I took it out of the box ten minutes and installed it for the first time... NO WEAR at all...... very impressive.. This whole clutch has some hard core off road abuse on it and the whole thing looks brand new... Amazing ! ::008::

Changed my basket and went with your Barnett pressure plate. Love the feel and action of the Barnett. Went with the black 55# springs.........perfect! I should have done this a year ago. Thanks Jaxon ::008::

I agree with all the others about how smooth the bike is now after the basket change. Almost as smooth as a inline 4 and for sure the most smooth twin I have ever had. ::012::

After removed, my old clutch basket felt and sounded like a heavy tambourine when shook with the springs rattling around. :)

That is correct. The 2012 clutch basket is the tambourine.

The Barnett Replacement pressure plate has springs and replaces the stock washer/spring setup.

Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing, but my 2012, with the old basket, is quite smooth. The only time that it gets buzzy is from 6k rpms on up where I spend very little time. I have tried cruising @ 3200 rpms and pulling in just enough pressure on the clutch lever to see if things change, but they don't.

I hope to someday get to ride a bike with the new basket for sake of comparison.

My 2012 felt a little buzzy at first than as others have posted it smoothed out with time around 10k for me then around 16k or so things started to change.
My throttle bodies had been checked and adjusted tech told me they had been a little off but not enough for the vibe.
My local independent mechanic I use 90% of the time kept telling me your clutch is getting extremely noisy at the last two tire changes.
So it just got worse until the change at 25k, he was blown away as well on how much difference it made.

Maybe the God's are pleased with you?

Marty, you are correct. You don't know what you are missing. I didn't either. I was quite happy with my 2012, but now having the new upgraded clutch basket in place, I have found that it runs like a new machine. It now performs superlatively well, turbine smooth, all through the rev range. I am a convert.

How much is the new clutch fix ? No extended ward on this bike of mine ::009::
Just to be clear, this is not a "fix." It is an upgrade. You can continue riding just fine with the old clutch basket. The new one is just much nicer and smoother. I was one of the lucky ones who got the new basket for $25.00 as a result of Yamaha's pricing error. Other listers have been finding them for around $250.00 now from some suppliers. If you Google it, you may be able to shop around and compare prices.

gofast, if the info I was given by a dealer is correct, the dealer cost for the 2014 clutch basket is $223.00. Price did not include gasket or nut. Hope this helps for comparing prices.
