Welcome to the forum Joe! If you haven't test rode one, I would suggest you do, although many here bought theirs during the PDP and placed their order before actually seeing one in person. No regrets in my case!

As for the color, they are both good. If you add your location to your profile, perhaps someone here can help you locate other pricing options if you do prefer the blue.

Good luck!

::026:: I came on the scene after the pdp and eventual delayed delivery, it really amazed me, and speaks volumes to the many individuals here who knew; informed themselves/researched/were confident enuf about the make/model/equipment/technology/mfgr and how so many folks here ordered these site unseen,
and it helped me make my decision to purchase.

...I am not going to be able to test ride because we just got about 7 inches of snow. I am not concerned as from what I have read and watched it seems great. The horse power is up over the multi, but the weight is a bit more. I am content and feel really good about the bike. Besides...not having to mess with the valves every 7500 is worth it! ::012::

Is it saturday yet?

joe
As many have stated they got deals on bike and/or accessories(I got 15% off on all oem access)... Joe, w/ sno on the ground the dlr may be open to discount on accessories for you, as reported some folks may even have gotten deals on YES. Can't hurt to ask.

One more day dude. It's all good.

Hope things go well for you.

You really shouldn't make these unproven statements about the OEM accessories. Like all these things it is a matter of personal choice, finances, and how you are actually going to use the bike that determines whether something is any good. Do you have any proof that the bash plate will hole the sump if hit by a rock or is this just conjecture based on other peoples opinions on the forum? Also, if you're never (or very rarely) going to take the bike off road then this isn't an issue. Do you have any proof that the boxes easily snap off during a fall? (I have seen direct evidence that they don't) and I don't have any problems at all with the locking mechanism on mine. In my opinion the OEM boxes look the best so if aesthetics is high on your wishlist then they fit the bill perfectly. The screen, I can't really comment on but then I'm quite happy with the standard screen so won't be changing it. I'm 6'-0" and find the standard screen very effective. If you're going to give your opinion of something try to just do that rather than tell people not to buy stuff just because you personally wouldn't buy it. ::) :-X :-\ ;)
I had a mind to get the hump about this post but instead I will approach it with as much calm dignity as I can restrain myself to. I have highlighted the bits I will comment about below.

Unproven Statements: 1) The panniers: 2 of these broke off during Yamahas own "Ride for Life" trip in May 2010 where they donated several S10s to African mobile doctors/medics. This was before anyperson was able to buy one. Read some of it here: http://rideforlife.super-tenere.com/. I agree, asthetically they are better, and they are also a lot narrower (and hence less capacity) but the locks are plastic. No stretch of the imagination is going to make them good. Metal is metal and plastic is plastic. Metal is strong and plastic is not. Simple if you think long and hard about it.
2) The screen: I have posted a picture of both Yamaha screens, placed on top of each other, elsewhere in this forum, and it can plainly be seen thay my orginal comments are correct. The screens are the same size apart from the "larger" one being a bit wider and laid back.
3) The sump guard. There are to my knowledge so far, 2 occurrences of sumps being punctured by the bash plate due to trauma. The rear fixing of the plate fixes directly to the rearmost sump bolt. If the plate is knocked at the front, the plate rotates and when the limit of flex is acheived, the sump bolt and the rear 1" square of the sump breaks away. Since these were published it appears that S10 owners have shied away from them and I have personally not seen any more. Obviously those who use it for light duty will not have this problem.

Whilst I agree, its horses for courses as to what you want to use the bike for. The original post asked for what he should consider before making a purchace. This invited opinion and I provided that opinion based on what I knew to be true. You are entitled to your opinion too and that may or may not have value.

The last comment, just because you personally wouldn't buy it, is just laughable. You have done no research . If you had, you would know fine well that I already bought all the items that I have commented on. I have also been sufficiently disapointed in them to replace them and have documented this in several places. This gives me some grounds to have an opinion them.

I hope you appreciate my efforts not to be rude.

Did you get the Blue one? I hope so, it provides deeper satisfaction. The other group secretly envies us, sobs quietly through the night..... 8)

My bike has the Yamaha bashplate. They had it at the dealer when I picked up the bike, so I had them mount it. The plate is ok, the mounts are not. The right side has a small curved section that covers the exhaust headers. A rock was tossed up by the front wheel and struck that portion, which flexed back and allowed a small dent on the RHS header, behind the bash plate. I got the "think what would have happened without the plate." Noted. And if the plate was mounted as solid as it should have been, then nothing would have happened. I'm of the opinion that with suitable bracing and proper mounts, the stock one is sufficient for any rational use this sized bike should be used for. Others have their own opinions.

All of the current plates mount to the engine in some manner. I have been asking (nagging) Flatland Racing to build me one of their howitzer proof plates (have one on my off road bike: robust enough to not show any damage after a hit severe enough to stop the bike) and I want the bash plate mounts to reach up to the engine mounts on the frame. That way, any hit force is transferred to the frame, not the engine. But the road (definition stretch) I was on really wasn't a good pick for a 575 pound bike with street tires anyway, so I only have myself to blame for the dent. Now it has character.

If I can't talk someone else into building the plate that I want, I'll fabricate it myself, although I'd rather not. I don't want more coverage, I just want it supported by the frame, not the engine.

Went to pick up my KBCO Studio C volume 23 on Saturday and since Yamadealer right across the highway and I kinda been Jonesin for a new A/T bike I stopped in to say Hi and look at the S10 one more time. I had turned my PDP order back in last summer, but recently had a change of heart. Offered them same deal I had last December $12.8k but they said that was a 'special PDP deal', which I could smell the odor of Tuna with that statement so I said to give me their best deal (for me, that is) and they came back with $13.5k + this and that, etc. I then stopped in the dealer in Northglenn, told them I could get serious with $12.5. They gave me a 'today only' price of $12.8 (or $12.5, can't remember which) for an OTD price of $14.1, including sales tax/prep for Today Only ::025:: That was around 1:00 or so. Told him I would think about it - they hate it when you say that. So I thought about it, and farkling and insurance and plates (not cheap here in CO) and around 4:00 PM I said what the hey!, flipped a coin, came up heads so took off for the store (close @ five and today only would go away - what's that smell?) So anyways I got halfway to the store and was seized by 0.5 buyer's remorse, so turned around and went home. Promptly @ five the phone rang and the kid wanted to know if I was serious about buying the bike. I said I was still noodling it around. He said he would talk to his manager to try to convince him to keep the deal open. I replied "Of course he will, haha". Kid told me he would call on Tuesday with answer ;D , so I will most likely order one of those purty black ones on Wednesday. They do want a five hundred dollar good faith deposit and I opted for the 6 month zero payment zero interest deal.

Called a friend and fellow member of this forum who lives on the left coast and owns an S10. After discussing his experiences and views on the bike, I'm thinking it's the bike for me. So I will pull the trigger this week on a black one.

Way to go, Joe. I agonized over which color for months but went with the blue and haven't had a regret. Congrats on a good choice! ::012::

Congrats Joe on the new arrival, well... when it arrives that is. Naturally it isn't real until your post has photos added. ::006::

I also have bought one over in Oztralia, via a dealer in QLD - near new with lots of farkles added by the previous owner (thank you kindly) and as a bonus has not been off the black top at all - the guy traded in on a new 2011/12 Goldwing, which tells me he likely had little want or need to go anywhere offroad. ???

I'm currently deciding whether I will fly from mainland China to OZ, to collect my new toy for a month long trip round the island, before shipping it back into mainland China. No underestimations here on how difficult and costly it will likely be to import this bike into China 100% legally (lots of grey market smuggled in bikes from Japan and HK) but not seen a Super10 around here yet. Lots of Bemmers though. Naturally when I have my Super10 photos and thread will start.

Would this be our first China Correspondent?

Looking forward to the Rides and photo's from over there 8)

Judging by what you are saying there doesn't seem to be any S10 copies yet. :D
