On a recent Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000, I did 1043 miles in just over 18hrs (Shamrock, TX, to Acworth, GA). That's an average of 57.5mph. Speeds were around 80mph (average) for most of the time during the day and then dropped to around 70mph after dark. I lost about 45min sitting in a dead stop about 15 miles from my final stop (broke down car in a construction zone north of Atlanta.

I don't have a hard and fast speed. So many variables. Depending on traffic and how I feel, many times I will run below the posted limit - just try to take my time and smell the roses. I have found that sometimes running a bit on the conservative side, which equates to better mileage and fewer fuel stops - I actually make better overall time. Other times I will run pretty consistent at 5-10 over. And then there are those holligan moments.......

Yeah that is the way I am. But even if I am on an interstate I will not go over 80. I too like looking around enjoying scenery, etc. I
