On the S10 80 is comfortable all day long but much over that the bike is not so happy. It can do it but just doesn't feel as good.
Since you bring up mpg my Tenere says I average 47+ but when figured out on paper it's more like 45Defekticon said:I averaged 47.7 doing backroads down to FL and 46.4 on the way back all highway averaging 80. No pillion but fully loaded with gear.
I spend a great many hours on 81 and I can tell the is the methodology. I live dangerously with the cruise on 79. Also, Ya'll lockup folks for the weekend for anything 20mph+. Its a serious infraction, and should carry some heavy fines/points. But I've never seen any other state feel that is reasonable. Is there back history on why that is? Over zealous judges?bigboy61 said:Former LEO here. When we ran radar our general SOP was to ticket at 10 MPH and over. Anything less than 10 we did not want to go in front of the judge with. It would seem petty and we did not want to lose our credibility with the court.
With that said I stay around 8MPH over the speed limit. Love that cruise control!
Highways here in VA Interstates outside of metro areas are around 70mph.
No, like anywhere else in the world, easy money! Nothing, zero, nada to do with your safety (while I agree that accidents are a real pain for the authorities), just plain easy cash machine on wheels.Defekticon said:Over zealous judges?
I did nearly the same thing. On highways I would give up to 10 over, but 11+ I would stop. Out here in New Mexico the traffic enforcement business was always thriving, but law enforcement can be a bit sparse on highways. If you wish to speed this is a relatively good place to do it.bigboy61 said:Former LEO here. When we ran radar our general SOP was to ticket at 10 MPH and over. Guess this falls under the old LEO adage saying "9 You're fine, 10 you're mine" Having said that my bike just seems to naturally settle in between 70-80 per the GPS speed.bigboy61 said:Former LEO here. I had a VW routan diesel for a rental over there I felt like I needed to be on the shoulder with the hazards on. Pedal mashed to the floor everywhere, just couldn't keep up with traffic.2112 said:As has been mentioned earlier in the thread much above 80 and it starts to shorten the tank range significantly, so 80's the cruising limit for me. Doesn't mean you can't have a quick rip up to 130 mph on those quiet stretches of finest German Autobahn. Mind you at only 130 mph you'll have 4 or 5 German saloon's up yer pooper queing up to be past...
It can be a bit of an eye opener at first until you get used to it, the difference in relative speed can be 70/80mph ! Everyone seems to just get on with it, though if it does go wrong I image it'll be on the TV news...Defekticon said:I had a VW routan diesel for a rental over there I felt like I needed to be on the shoulder with the hazards on. On a recent trip I returned on I-5 from Red Bluff to Woodland. I set the cruise control on 73 mph and it worked very well with dealing with traffic.shrekonwheels said:Speed limit in Montucky is 80 , I drive/ride at 70-75 during the day, at night drop another ten.
