How about the Honda VFR1200 X? Big smooth V-4 power and tall upright riding position. Not much heavier than the Tenere but it doesn't have the off road ability. The FJR for me was FAST but only when it was wound up to higher RPM's and because of lack of ground clearance it would grind the footpegs in turns. The ST is definitely more comfortable for both rider and passenger.

Thank you all for your help. Didn’t realize the CTX1300 was discontinued. At 76:5 (now) , i’m still young at heart....and physically fit (swim every day). As I mentioned, I currently love the S10 for local adventure riding....but no off road riding for me anymore when I move back to the states. With the right aftermarket saddles, does it make sense to ride the FJR1300ES for a few years, then move on to the latest DCT Tour version of the Goldwing after, say. 4-5 years when I am older? I know they are vastly different, and that’s okay, the Super Tenere was very different from my Valkyrie. I’ll adjust. Perhaps a test ride of each will be the right thing to do.....and, of course, I will. Russel Day Long would be our saddle(s) of choice. 4 years now on my 2014 and loving every minute.....but want something lower for next bike.

Scott,
It never makes sense to me why people ask other people what kind of bike they should get. You know you are going to get as many opinions as there are bikes out there , from people whose experience and riding abilities you know nothing about. How that can help, I'll never know.

Having said that, I think you should get the new seven speed DCT Goldwing and never look back! LOL

What’s the test ride situation like in Honduras ? Here in the states at least for me test rides have always been very easy to get. From the impression I get reading your posts I would highly recommend taking a test ride on one or more of the new 2018 Honda Goldwings, for you and the wife I think they would be about as close to the perfect bike as you could get.
Here is a very good link to the most popular 2018 wing website.

Hey Scott & Cycledude. Thanks for the replies. Scott, you have a point....but am counting on more experienced riders to point an old-timer in the right direction. So far, people who have taken the time to hear me out, have steered me towards the Wing for two-up ridingon pavement, as you did.....for a final bike. Thanks. Cycledude, my local Yamaha dealer allowed me to test ride a leftover 2012 for only 15 minutes. I realized I could handle it, so I then ordered the gen 2 2014 and waited 6 months. No regrets. This base model is as reliable a bike as I have ever had.....and extremely capable, especially for some of the unpaved roads down here. I can’t comment on other brands. I didn’t want a Harley due to there being only one dealer in the country. Yamaha has four. After all the research I did, the S10 came way out on top. Kinda like a survey. This is how I learn. I’m connected only with the Harley guys down here, but they gotta have that macho Image. They sure suffer for it in the reliability dept., though. I just follow them when we do trips. That way I have my S10 reliability and the sweet sound of a pack of Harley’s ahead of me. Will ride them both when I move back up north. Thanks again. Over and out. Scott
