The ABS/UBS is a big fat module, that could shave several pounds, but on the other hand, it works quite well to stop the beast with its extra weight... ;D

I'd remove the skid plate and crash bars we all have before that. It does work extremely well.

This looks very light but I bet it is super loud.

Thanks a lot. ::) I just bought it. If it is excessively loud hopefully I can mod it a little more! ::26::

Please post a video of it running. I'd love to hear it.

I modified a stock one. Drilled out a mid divider plate with holes equal to Ø1.12" in area. Normal path through exhaust is Ø1.5".
I could easily see daylight through the can now, not before. Removed the spark arrestor screen too.
Didn't notice any noise increase at all!
That's why I'm gonna try that custom one. Cheaper than a new can!

Hey Greg, sounds like the FZ and FJ have you yearning for lighter toys... nut'n wrong with that.

Checkwrecks got it right, we debate every pound here on the interweb, then we add the most robust farkles we can buy with absolutely no consideration to there weight and the kind of protection we really need. What's wrong with us????? 8)

I wouldn't trade my skid plate and crash bars.... I have heard some almighty smashes against the skid plate off road and I had an off a couple weeks ago at 50-60km the front washed out on a dirt road and the bike went down on the left then high sided and went down on the right.

I managed to break the headlight bracket going over the bars. Fixed the bracket and the bikes like new. Nursing a fractured hand and foot but I went and picked my bike up yesterday from the shop in Lithgow that looked after it for me and rode it the couple hundred kms home.

Funniest part is I'd been flying through some pretty hairy trails, but managed to stack it on the slightest bend.

I guess my tip for weight savings would be just fill the tank with as much fuel as you need... If it's only 100kms between fuel you don't need 400km range

I have no issue with the weight of the S10... I guess though in the spirit of the thread one could forego the centre stand.

I went down on mine twice in the most stupid easy conditions and it hits the ground surprisingly fast as well.
I have been in tight conditions that made me bite my lip off and no problem.
I guess it's a matter of being to complacent on easy trail conditions Vs the ones you need to focus on, it can catch you off guard. ::005::
Never the less if you ride it like your Danny Chandler (R.I.P.) your going to hit the deck sooner or later.

Agreed on fuel.
the centerstand is low down, and is not as much of a bother. That said, maintenance is a snap with the c.stand, and I would have issues letting go of that ease

I really don't think there is any significant weight savings to be had, couple grams/kilograms here and there isn't going to make any real noticeable difference and if your not looking to shave seconds off Lap times why bother.

She is what she is and that is an over engineered work horse with a large power plant.

Has anyone weighed this engine? I'm thinking close to 150lbs. How does the old adage go?... fast, light or durable... pick only two.

Totally agree but think you are way low on the weight if you include the wiring and essentials for it to run.

Just put on that exhaust last night. Fits pretty good. Saves around 8-9 lbs over stock.
Hopefully try it tonight. Lots of rain lately.

I am glad it fits. Did you run the bike? Was it loud? ::008::

I was considering rolling the dice on that pipe, and will regret not doing so, if it is not really loud.

It's louder than stock alright. A bit more than I want. The cap on end comes off so I'll see what I can do to quiet it up some.
I looks like it might have some stainless wool inside. Regular packing may help some and I can always make a different cap and add some restriction or such.
Sound is just so-so. :-\
Something to play with! ::014::

What is that pipe?
Link?

It is a custom fabricated pipe I found on ebay. Ace purchased it after I posted the link above in this thread. I corresponded with the seller before posting the link here. I asked him if it was an existing can that was adapted to fit the Tenere. He said it had no manufacturers markings on it and appeared to be fabricated from scratch. He purchased the bike used and this pipe and the OEM pipe came with it. He went with the OEM pipe.

Yes, built from scratch, all SS. Decent build too. It's too loud and sound isn't that good either. Straight thru design with perf baffle wound with steel wool. I'm going to add SuperTrapp baffles to the end so I can tune it to the bike, and repack with the fiber-glass stuff.
It had no back-pressure and it felt like I lost some torque across the board. ::013::
