On the hunt for a Super Tenere. Got a DR650 which is a great bike and wanting something a little more substantial for the highway and longer duration rides. Or that is the thought at the moment, before I'm too old and decrepit. Party on!

Welcome from Mississippi. You will be in for a treat. Until u have to pick it up from a nap. I dropped mine alone on a downhill slope the other day. My old back is still sore.

I got to sit on a new one the other day. I swished her back and forth and it didn't seem to be to bad to keep vertical. I imagine there is a point where the 600# kicks in and it's get out of the way. That's the size of a gorilla, and nobody messes with them. Didn't ride the bike, or the gorilla. Probably saved me some dough. Been doing some shopping for a while now and kind of settled on the Tenere.

Welcome, from Texas. You're correct about the weight. If you drop her, she's gonna be heavy to pick back up. But when riding, as soon as she start rolling, she loses about a hundred pounds. If you liked the DR, you'll love the Tenere. I used to have a KLR and was expecting just a bigger KLR. Turned out to be nothing like the KLR; much, much better. She's my favorite bike ever. Best bang for the buck.

I purchased a new Super Tenere today. What a horse. Quite different from the Dr650. Whoever designed the seat must have had a good chuckle. Nothing like a continues frontal snuggy. But I think it is gonna work. Little buzzier in the handle bars than I thought it would be. The footpegs are a little further back then I was remembering. The stock windscreen looks doable, I'm 6'1" with a 33" inseam, could be changed to just a little taller in the future. It's got a lot of power off the bottom end. Something like the Moto Guzzi VV85t would have been plenty of power.

It's been around since April when I joined that I've been on the hunt. The merry go round seemed to always stop at the Super Tenere. Don't think I'll be disappointed. For another $10k I could have had a GSA, that didn't seem prudent. I'll have to set it up with the panniers I've been using on the Dr650, the Igloo coolers with the top open lid. Those things have me spoiled, don't think I'll ever want knee high side open panniers. Lots of reasons for the Tenere, none too compelling. But here it is.

Thanks Tenman, that's exactly what I did. Looks to be a step in the right direction, haven't tested it out yet.

Really like the cruise control on the s10. First motorcycle with one, don't think I'll be without or that'll be my preferred choice. Have to take some slack out of the throttle cable. I see why some are adjusting the engine braking. I forgot what a big engine with little inertia can do for braking.

Ordered a Yamaha oem tall windscreen, just need a couple inches to be perfect though the stock is pretty good. Drained the rear diff oil. All that sparkles is not gold.

I'll add this about the seat. I did what Tenman linked to in the above re the slanted seat. I also took the cover off and cut the corners off the outside top of the seat where the legs go down, this helps in seat height issues and the contour fits the leg profile better. I also made a cutout down the center of the seat, V shaped. Experience from bike seats that do this also, this relieves pressure from the perineum, so your junk doesn't fall asleep. It also gives the foam somewhere to expand to and helps in the softness department. To reattach the cover takes a pretty good staple gun, I have a Makita battery powered unit that works good, and 1/4" staples.

Like what seems like the longer wheelbase on the Super ten. Some describe the handling lethargic but I prefer it to the shorter and twitchier wheelbase, especially at speed.

Still liking this bike. Get it all farkled out and it'll be good for a while.

I observed the wheels hadn't been balanced. Surprised Yam doesn't do this from the factory. I thought someone said there was the 19mm removal tool in the tool kit so I went on a hunt for that. Not under the seat, check youtube. Under the side valance, surprise, and even better quarter turn fasteners. Found the battery also, surprised there again, the terminals were not tight, maybe the cause of the sleepy start ups. Another surprise, there is the dongle for the battery charger. Yam does a pretty good job of thinking of some things. So on to the tire balance, starting on the rear, the cush drive came apart and there was a little tug of war to get all that figured out. The rear wheel was out 1/4 oz. so I was thinking this is gonna be a waste of time. The front was easier to remove. And it was out a full ounce. I think and hopefully found the buzz in the handlebars. Around town at lower rpm it is pretty smooth, the buzz was noticed on the highway, so hoping that is fixed.

See you next time.

Is this a zero mile, brand new bike? The reason I ask is that there should have been 3 locksets for OE luggage. (unless that's been discontinued too) But, unless they just started doing so, I've never heard of a charger pig-tail already installed. (although it should be) Almost sounds like someone's been in there already. Would explain a lot of the other little issues also.

Brand new on the floor, can't say zero miles though, it had 63 on it, I'd guess demo miles, the dealership had it quite a while. There were 3 lock sets, I'm guessing for the luggage. The charger pigtail was hooked to the battery and tucked into the wiring, the lugs were kind of big for the fastener so I was pulling on one of the leads to see if I could change it and the rest of the wiring was discovered. Looked oem, even had an inline fuse. Re the other observances, I'm guessing the dealer assembly could have been lacking. The front axle through bolt was a little light on the torque also.

Also took it for a highway drive, think it is smoother now the front tire is balanced, but to be sure I'd have to take the weights back off and I'm not gonna do that. So I'm thinking it is smoother.

Wish there was some way to smooth out the off idle throttle response. Like an inline spring or something. Think I'll take some more slack out of the cable see if I can modulate a little better. Been driving in touring mode even. Something between touring and sport would suffice. Think a person would have to be careful standing up, he'd throw himself off. But it's all good.

There are two options. 1) Keep riding (as much as possible) and become used to it. Bumper to bumper city driving is the best, for getting used to the clutch & gas. Won't take very long. 2) Have the ECU flashed. Many on here have done so and swear by it. Smooths out the throttle response.

I'm an option 1 guy. I love the throttle response as is. But you do have options.
