Tabasco are these tires rated for use in below freezing temps?? I'm asking because of the recent Bridgestone thread that I linked from the KLR forum....

Between cutting chunks out of your tires and now worrying about below freezing temps and weather your tires can handle it, I think some of you guys are slowly losing your marbles. Hang in there, Winter is almost over :)

I've not had much time to read about the bridgestones. But I have riden my K60 below freezing many times. No problem at all. Check the tire pressure is all I did. :)

The Bridgestone thread is BS, as mentioned in that thread.

BTW, I've run my beat & worn K60s to near 10 F with no problem.

Sean, it appears you're idea is catching on. Do we owe you some kind of royalty?

Slowly losing my marbles?

According to the better half, it is completed and it happened a long time ago.

Can't wait to cut. Feeling artistic.

Okay I realize asking about the temp rating seems a little over the top....the reason I asked was I was "discussing" the Bridgestone issue on another forum and mentioned I would probably replace the OEM tires for K60s and was jumped on about "how do I know what they are rated for bla bla bal" to which I admitted I didn't know and would find out....so I went to the source on these tires....retrospectively I realize it probably seemed overly paranoid....

As I posted on another thread, it's not just a Bridgestone problem.

Got my K60's spooned on this weekend and finally got a chance to ride today. First impressions: A whole lotta rumble and noise to start with. My first thought was "shit! I put something back together wrong . Then I realized its just the vibe/break-in nature of the tires that everyone spoke of. They're kinda skittish on the tarmac at first, then I found some forest service roads and discovered the true nature of these tires ::013:: On the return trip home, I noticed the vibes less and as the newness scrubbed off, they handled better in the corners than I first thought. I think these are gonna work great. Thanks again Jaxon.

No qualms with the "skittish" at first on tarmac before they even get scrubbed in.
And for the few folks that describe them as scary on tarmac AFTER they are scrubbed in, I can bow humbly and simply admit they can ride harder on road than I normally will.

Keep in mind I am almost always tcs1 on tarmac. For sure in rain.

To be honest, I'm the opposite of my brother. (He's a K60 convert)
He is very comfortable on road, but tentative and conscientious when the pavement ends.
I'm reasonably conscientious on road, but much more comfortable taking risks off road. This amazing bike just PULLS me endlessly to towards even the smallest sample of adventure. Ditches and fields and corner lots are a constant distraction.

Hopelessly addicted. The K60 is probably the pusher.

Put mine on last saturday, and mine are very smooth except for around 20 miles an hour. No i do notice around 65MPH on the highway my windscreen is vibrating like crazy, but I feel nothing in the handlebars or seat. When I got home I was looking to see how much weight they had added while balancing and noticed there was no weight added. My tires do have a red dot that was aligned with the valve stem, and I know he put them on the balancer because I saw him spinning them up.

Great points. While it is my opinion these are the best all around tire for what the S10 is primarily designed for, I also find myself holding back a little on the road as compared to when I had the stock tires. But the trade off as to what these will do off-road compared to the stock tires is what makes them well worth it.

I did learn the hard way not to try and lean the bike hard on asphalt in slow speed turns. It's not that the K60's couldn't grip on asphalt, but there was some gravel I did not see (night time, dark parking lot) and down I went. In all fairness to the tires, this was a bars locked turn and I was leaning it pretty good assuming I had a clean lot (dumbass). I don't think I would have went down with the more street oriented stock tires. Not a big deal. It cost me a shift lever ::010::

I also noticed a slight feeling of less stability in the front wheel at higher speeds when cornering on the highway. I mean speeds of 80mph plus. So I thought about this and told myself, "Hey dummy you are not on your Concours it's gonna feel different". I am not saying they are less stable at the higher cornering speeds, it's just they don't quite feel as solid. However, the off-road trade off is well worth it and I am sure those with better high speed skills than me would not even be concerned. At regular highway speeds which most riders travel they are outstanding. I kind of like the buzz they make at 20 mph and slower. Makes me feel like I am riding a beast.

I got a set of K60s a couple weeks ago. For the past two weekends did some spirited touring on twisty mountain roads and have nothing but good to say about these tires. They rail around corners and while the traction control light goes on easier than with the Battlewings they replaced they never slip at all in corners. Almost went with Anakee 3s but these looked so much beefier, glad I decided to try them.

I got mine installed this past weekend. Once this rain stops I'll be able to try them out. ::012::

As soon as the month is up I'll be likely replacing my K60s with Mich Anakkee 3s. I'll have put around 4K miles on the K60s and whilst they do make a difference off road its not that much that I probably couldn't do the same with Anakees or tourances /similar given the weight of the S10 and my abilities (ie slow plodder). I'm also not seeing the stellar mileages that others seem to get as my K60 rear has about 2mm left over legal limit (in uk) though front just seems to be aged rather than worn . The K60s have also limited the top speed attainable as they get seriously flighty over 80 odd mph (not on a public highway officer). Running them at max allowed pressures damped this a bit but didn't eliminate , I think this feature is because they are a bias rather than radial tyre, that and the lower tarmac grip levels (TC light is only a twist of the throttle away) are persuading me to return to a more "normal" Adv tyre.
I'll probably be burned at the stake as a K60 heretic but I think this view is worth sharing amongst what seems to be a tide of emperors new clothes views of the Hiedenhaus

@macca - I think your experience and point of view are worth sharing. Depending on riding style, area and how we use our bikes, the K60s will work better or worse for each individual.

I'm not much of a twist the throttle guy, keeping more of a steady pace for most of my riding. Even off pavement I'm not much of a tire spinner. I really like the capabilities of the K60 for my riding style though, and how it allows me to just depart pavement at speed and eat up gravel, two track and just bad dirt roads. Not so great for me in the sand, but most other stuff they have done well for me.

Everyone has a valuable opinion as long as it's constructive!

I have K60's and they do have there limitations. However, it does seem that they meet the requirements of most riders on this forum.

Macca,

I might be one of the loudest fans of the K60 on an S10, but I wouldn't even reach for my matches because of your comments.
They sound legit to me.

I suppose the K60 following amongst the S10 and GS crowd is because it just fits really well into the way these bikes are used by many of folks that purchase them. But not everyone fits that mold. (Yea, it was BMW demand for K60's that pressured a BMW dealer to start carrying them in Houston)

Me personally? I'm making huge efforts to find a better tire than the K60 for the way I ride. Except my quest is in the opposite direction.
Looking forward to trying the Karoo 3!

No burning at the stake today. :)
