Re: Head count: Dead or High Idle issues only Who has been bit?

2015 ES: did stall several times while pulling in the clutch since the beginning I have the bike. It happens really randomly but when it happens it may be 2 or 3 times in the same week (one might read with the same fuel tank...)

Re: Head count: Dead or High Idle issues only Who has been bit?

I have a 2014 es which had stalling issues at low revs, I even fell off the bugger when i tried to pull out of a junction and the bike had other ideas... Well after several times back to the dealer we eventually found the problem being a weak battery. They looked at all the info stored on the ECU as it records the imformation environment from all the sensors when the bike stalls or shows unregular issues. The data showed the battery voltage dropped to 10.5 volts when the radiator fan came on causing the bike to stall. New battery fitted and its been fine ever since. The bikes like a strong healthy battery but the tenere isn't the only one as Yamaha know about an issue with the R1's as well.

20154 ES with 4000 miles....tickover is around 1200? Had probably 3 or 4 occasions when I've been siting at lights in neutral, lights change, pull clutch in, snick it into first and go to pull away...only to have it stall. Starts back upon the button but it's annoying ::007::

That has been on my list to get a new Battery this one has 4 years and close to 4k miles on it.
I think it's time!

Does it count if the engine stopped spontaneously only once in 72,000 miles? This month I rolled up to an intersection, pulled in the clutch lever and revs dropped to zero. Quickly restarted without cycling the key off/on. This occurred shortly (same day) after nearly running out of gas (put in 5.8 US gal). Who can say if the two are related? All I can say is, "Thx Yamaha for 71,999 nearly trouble-free miles.

My 15 ES has 1100 miles and it has stalled 5 times pulling in the clutch at low speeds , the TSB update coming Feb 1 may help if we reprogram or replace the ECU , if not I will sync the throttle bodys.

Re: Head count: Dead or High Idle issues only Who has been bit?

When my Blue was new it would die at stop lights as I tried to take off [blip the throttle], After boosting the CO. up to +20 it runs perfect.
When I got home from Alaska this Aug. the bike had mud spray and calcium chloride spray in everything possible. It started shutting the engine off as I would let the clutch out to take off, would restart then die again as I let out the clutch, Then it would not start till I cycled the key. This went on randomly for a couple days. It seemed to be related to the ignition switch so I sprayed lube in the switch and it has never happened again.

That's exactly how I'd describe my 14 with 4000 miles....not very often though ....a couple of times a month...the strange thing is , twice at the same junction ::)

Re: Head count: Dead or High Idle issues only Who has been bit?

I've had the high idle on and off for about 3 days now. Scarey when it first started. I was doing an overtake and suddenly the bike went to almost full throttle and stuck there. Engine died so I pulled over and restarted but it still wouldn't go below 4,000 rpm. Its happening on and off now and I've tried checking many things but it doesn't seem to have helped (cleaned air box/filter...checked throttle cables etc). Just did a 3hr ride with no problems but after starting it again it started running at 3,000 again. Even when its running ok I can no longer switch between T & S modes. Haven't found any solutions on here yet so any help is much appreciated. Sorry for any typos (my fat fingers on my phone)

Stutrump, I'm not sure I can help with the hard start, but the switching between T and S mode might be, as someone on here found, if you open the switchgear you may find that a plastic tab has broken off on the little strip under the switch........

Best solution I've found for this problem is to just turn the key to off, give it a second to shut dow n, and then turn it back on.

Seems to take care of it 99% of the time.
