Or I could put together a green trail ride and save everyone the fee. Having lived in southern WV for 5+ decades, I know a road or two here, there and yonder. Just wouldn't have the H&M monniker.
I'm listening.

Early Oct sounds doable. How many days are we looking at?

Lemme give it some thought and I'll do some possibles with Google mapping.

2 day weekend maybe? I'm flexible - it's close enough that I can make it a day trip easily. That route idea looks interesting! Thanks for posting it.

How about a Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon? Allows folks little more flexibility traveling to and from.

Twin Falls State Park in the heart of Hatfield-McCoy country is an excellent place to consider staying. Can choose a lodge room, a cabin for the group (but generally requires early decisions) or camping.

Let's do this thang!

weekend would be optimal. Need to check with the missus about her thoughts and if she would want to roll strong on the ATV.

We would most likely "camp"

Perhaps this will reignite the interest upon which I apparently burst a balloon by proposing a date and place. Where'd you guys go  ::017::

Um, sorry about that. I've been busy trying to sell it to Dirt Mom. Mark me down as very likely to come. Not certain if DM will be joining us or not.

I like the looks of your video...except for that 25 MPH sign. ::26::

That sign is in the immediate area of the mine security office. Obeying the speed limit when you have just let yourself in through the back door (read technically trespassing) is a good idea. Both times we passed by security, they just waved, because we were behaving and sticking to the roads they have not posted as off limits.

That particular route traverses about 5 miles of active haul road but outside of that you can set your own pace.

Be sure and tell Dirt Mom the roads I'm planning fall well within the realm of civility, good gravel/dirt roads with brief occassional stretches of loose gravel/rock. After all, we rode it 2-up and survived.

Having said that, there are many more challenging reaches nearby for those seeking higher level adventure.

That should help get her there.

That will help get me there. I may not mention this part to her. >:D

Will know tomorrow. The missus gets her call schedule for October. Are we looking at non ATV roads?

I will be routing county one laner paved/gravel roads through the middle of nothingness (like shown in the video), thus avoiding the trail access fees. The HM folks call them "System Connectors" on their maps and they are HM designated Green (easiest) trails. Again I emphasize they are county roads (read all access legal to licensed vehicles w/o permit) .

But in reality in that part of the country there is no such thing as a non ATV road...ATV/UTVs are ridden everywhere including brief bouts on main state highways and the public/law enforcement accepts it within reason. Lots of the trail system overlaps and crosses these roads and they see as much ATV traffic as cages.

We will be in the heart of the eastern tracts of the Hatfield and McCoy trail system (Pinnacle Creek, Indian Ridge & Pocahontas). There are roads/trails of all descriptions/skill levels available but an access permit ($50 for non-residents) may be involved if you are planning on using the official trail system.

I guess the bottom line is that your missus would need a permit. More info here: http://www.trailsheaven.com/
