Before you tell me there is a handle bar thread hear me out, it seems to only cover risers or bars that are higher ! I'm trying to find a set of bars that rake in a little bit more than the standard bars that come with the bike looking to get my hands more open than the standard bars. Anyone have any experience playing around with bars to improve their ergonomics ?

Pro Tapers seem to be the way to go, not sure if you've dove into this one yet?

If you're looking for the ultimate solution:

This might be over the top for me - but again there's some technical information on the handle bar specs that could be helpful !

Thanks

Your correct the S10 bars are ergonomically poor IMO.
There is not enough back sweep or rake in them. Pro Taper is a good choice used by many, you can select what fits you best.
I have been thinking switching mine out for couple years now, let me know if you do it how it works out.

Handlebars are like seats. What fits u may not fit me. I tried some evo hi handlebars on my gen1 and went back to stock with rox risers. Perfect fit for me

The bars on my 2012 Tiger 800 Roadie killed my wrists so i changed them. Fortunately the bars on the Gen2 are fine. I do have 25mm risers on though.

My wrists hurt within 30-40 minutes of riding with the factory bars. I tried Rox Risers and it didn't help. I swapped out to some Renthal Fat bars and its much better, but the angles aren't perfect for the bend that i bought. I can ride my KTM Dirt bike all day and no issues. I may look for a stock KTM bend and go that route at some point. Sit on a bunch of bikes and find something more comfortable, but you wont really know until you get some time behind the bars.

fac - I fully agree but looking to improve the comfort level - doesn't take much, i remember lowering my foot pegs on my VStrom and it made a HUGE difference . I've come to realize that if my handle bars where pulled back about 1'' and more sweep (actual term used by Pro tapper ) it could be an improvement, will start by taking some measurements of the stock set up and see where I go from there !

My bars have a bend in them from a drop,
I am looking at Renthal Gold fatbar # 819-50 . built for MT09. They are a bit narrower than original.
In my MX adventures Pro Tapers bend easily ,
Renthal can take a drop or 2 before bending .
The handguards will need to be adapted by bar end adapter.
However I also intend to try to replace these,
as they barley block the wind on cold days. almost useless
just some ideas,
Also may check out the adventure high bars, or Africa Twin bend.
OEM SPEC. I think this is rite .
Width : 819 mm / 32.28
Height : 82 mm / 3.23"
Sweep : 142 mm / 5.59"
Clamp : 1 1/8"
grip : 7/8"

Larry great feed back will take a look at your comments regarding the handle bars: this might be end of season project or first thing early next year !

See below from Barckbuster I looked into the S10 specific/recommended model this is what i was told to get

You need the specific mounting kit for your bike which is BHG-053.

I too find the OEM ones a bit skimpy

On my tenere I went with the evo tall bars. But for for DRZ I took the stock bars off went to Cycle Gear and a few other shops and did a side by side comparison to find exactly what I was looking for.

Like Tenman said handle bars are like seats. Everybody likes something different. I find the stock bars really nice for me. Of course in the stock location they sucked. My old body is dealing with several injuries that never seem to completely heal so the bars are really important to me. I wound up moving my bars back using rox risers. Not to raise them but to move them closer to me. I narrowed the bars two inches as well. the Rox risers did raise the bars enough I could roll them back to lower the outside end of the bars. perfect! For me that is. I use this bike every day for everything. I really don't like to reach for the bars and really don't like flat straight bars. they hurt my elbows and wrists something terrible. if I hold my elbows up and out like I am in full moto mode not so much. On every day riding I want to be relaxed and not wearing myself out. I find that evasive emergency maneuvers are much better quicker and more controlled even when I am tired when I am relaxed on the bike. Between my seat and bar set up this is a very comfortable bike that just feels good.

I've reposted my post from another thread earlier...

I replaced the stock bars today with a different bend and nearly 3 inches narrower. Initial feel is very positive. I've found the stock bars to have an uncomfortable hand placement and I've always felt they were far too wide. I feel that I have too much leverage at times and have to concentrate to be extremely gentle with steering input. After now going for a short ride, I am very happy with the change. I'm curious to see how it feels on the next day ride. I have long arms and due to back injuries, I prefer to lean forward just a bit. Now, the steering takes more effort and higher speed turns feel more stable. It doesn't "walk" when trying to hold a line in a high speed turn.
I felt the stock bars, even with risers, give a very vague feel of control on this bike. I don't know if that is due to the bend or because they are so absurdly wide but, for me, this was a welcome and positive change.
