gen2 owners.. Stock sport mode unusable?

I don't like sport mode either. On the highway it is OK but I find it too snatchy and jerky any other time.

I plan on getting my ECU flashed, maybe even this week, hopefully that make it smoother. The short friction zone, overly sensitive throttle response and excessive engine braking are the biggest issue with this bike for me. The ECU flash from Anthony should solve everything except for the short friction zone.

Sport mode on this bike is really not that crazy, My last few bikes included an 1800cc V-Twin and a 2300cc Triple and both of those bikes would fly the moment you try and use the throttle - especially in the middle of turns. Those bikes have gotten me used to the Sport mode on the Tenere like it was just switching from one bike to the other! Yes, it's jerky but its no worse then riding a bike with a huge amount of power with massive cylinders. Get used to it, and start enjoying!

I personally switch between modes all the time when I'm riding. I did have to get used to learning how to pull away with the clutch one after the other but its doable and fun.

Sounds like some of you are coming from carb'd bikes. There is a learning curve moving to EFI, then another when moving to throttle by wire.

Interesting point! Yes, its true the carbd bikes I've rode in the past were insanely smooth and easy on the throttle... this being my first Ride by wire it is extremely touchy!! But you can get used to it.

Like many have said I found S to be really snatchy and have mostly used T but if I'm honest I just need to learn to use S!

Clicked over to Touring Mode at the start of the NMBDR to help keep things in check. Later in the first day I was rolling up some gravel inclines and the bike was kinda sluggish. Flicked over to Sport Mode and roosted the rest of the climbs till the end.

The Throttle Tamer helps mitigate that initial 'snatchiness', and combined with adjusting your wrist twist slightly till muscle memory kicks in helps too. I don't even notice it now. If you are not going to flash, get the Tamer. Internal bearings also eliminate throttle tube maintenance.

Don't forget the throttle body sync and air screw adjustments. ;)
::026:: I too recommend the throttle tamer. It works great for me. I never use T mode even off road. I took it one step farther and replaced the cam on the throttle tamer with a 400 series cam, it came with a 200 series.

100%!! I thought everybody knew that. Manual trans automobiles are the same way. It' s 99% due to the fly-by-wire. I think that's why it's so hard to find a manual nowadays. I'm a cheapskate. It's cheaper/easier to adjust my driving/riding habits. My wife says she can't even feel my shifting anymore. Just a little practice. ::001::

Yeah, I'm like Eric and only use "S" mode. Just technique with throttle & clutch. I always switch to "T" mode if I let a friend ride it though just to be safe. :eek:

Meanwhile, I'm in the group of having lots of miles on two Teneres and almost always being in T mode. I flip it to Sport only if with other bikes.

I dont find any issues with sport mode. I agree that the first time I tried it, it felt a bit "snatchy", but you soon develop "the touch" and everything is fine after that.

I agree with you. I tired it and it was so snatchy that I went back to T mode and that's where I'll stay. T mode makes the bike feel carbureted to me which I can live with. All the benefits of fuel injection but with smooth action of CV carbs. S mode is just too hard coming on or off the throttle for me, timing chains/sprockets, driveline, tires, .....

I'm glad there are two modes so we can pick our poison.

My 2015 ST with AVC's reflash currently has ~33K miles on it, nearly all of them ridden in the Enhanced S mode. I was initially hesitant to use S mode, but now the T mode feels relatively dull and I go back to S right away. To me AVC's ES mode feels smooth with no sense of snatchiness, but a very quick response when you get on the throttle. Can't offer any comparison with the stock S mode because I had ECU flashed as soon as I got the bike.
