I am now really breaking in my S10 and i only put the expensive gas in my bike and with my transiting to work and back, i on average get about 200-205 miles per tank. I am thinking about reflashing my ECU but not sure if it worth it..... i do ride in national forests and off the beaten path so i would use it give or take. ::002::

By expensive gas do you mean 91 octane, because that is what you need to fuel it with. As far as gas mileage, it was one of the things I promised myself I wouldn't think about, but that's just me. Good luck with your new bike!!

How many gallons are you putting in at 200-205 miles?

Are you riding past the flashing light and approximately how far? When I feel up at the flashing light, I usually only put in 4 or so. I
Here in Oklahoma we have non-ethanol gas. I run 91 non-ethanol and am averaging over 42.

That's right at 40 mpg, that's right on the money.

From what I have been reading it's a mixed opinion on Flash and gas mileage.
I just have the Clutch jumper mod on my bike at this time..
This thing likes gas when applying an aggressive throttle hand combined with high speed or doing a lot of up hill roads.

It's a gas pig if you allow it to be. I average between 38 to 44 mpg, 37 +- if I am on the interstate doing 80 to 90 mph, 44 to 45 mpg using a genteel hand at 60 to 70 mph, up and down shifting in the mountains 40 to 43 mpg.

My S10 certainly doesn't use more fuel since the reflash. Going steady (70 or less) on a European tour with Sarah and loaded Holans I was getting over 200 miles to a tank consistently. That includes mountain roads a well as faster roads.

Flash alters the relation between the position of the throttle you are holding and what the engine is commanded to do. It is not a change to the mixture, so in itself you shouldn't use any more or less gas. In fact, I commute in Tour mode and had it left stock when the ECU was re-flashed.

What will affect your gas consumption is that the harder you twist the throttle the richer the acceleration mixture gets. If you can tame your wrist then no change to your consumption.
O:)
But the flash in Sport mode does bring out the devil in us.

My mileage increased about 5% when I got my S10 flashed. Mileage is affected by air temperature and altitude. The best I've ever gotten is 56 mpg in Colorado on a warm September day. I normally get about 51 mpg in the warm summer, and 47 or so in the winter on the East Coast. I use touring mode almost exclusively and ride around on back country roads. I do use 92/93 octane E10 gas. Can't complain.

The worst I've done is on a cool day on interstate highways at 80mph with a 40mph headwind and luggage: mileage went down to 38mpg.

When the bike was new, I used to get 35 - 40. These days, I've been getting around 50 for a longer trip (meaning, not all start and stop like my commute).

Both Jeff and I got into the 50mpg range when we went to Colorado last year. Near sea level here in Cali my normal is high 30's to low 40's. Spending the day above 5000' in the Sierras... at lower speeds, sees me into the 50 range again. I'm not sure how much is slower speeds or the high altitude. Seems to me just about everybody from Colorado sees a much higher mpg.

I ride mine fairly hard. The fuel economy has got better, but I'm not sure if that is winter to summer, or mileage on the bike, as I have put on 9000 miles since I bought it in February.

I have gotten between 42 imperial (35 US) riding hard in winter and 52 imperial (43 US) not so hard riding in summer.

Hard acceleration and high top speed is the enemy of fuel economy, especially on this bike that has the aerodynamics of a brick.

Bingo, It does have a lot to do with altitude. I'm at 753ft above sea level and getting an average 40mpg. Higher elevation 5000 + I get about 50 - 52mpg. Thinner air = less oxygen = less gas mixture = less gas used = (less horse power).

I was getting 42mpg during break in, now 38mpg... Only difference is in application of right hand on throttle. Oh and more S less T. ::26::

It's not uncommon for me to get lower than average gas mileage than expected on non fully faired bikes. I am 6' 7" and I present a significant drag profile when a sit upright... Which how I usually ride.

Could be that I am a FF and weigh as much as two adult Japanese men put together ::016::

I will check out the throttle sync though. I sort of thought that having 50 miles on it when I bought it that the throttles would be synced but I could be wrong...
