The fuse for the electric socket on my S10 blew the first time I used my little air pump to pump my matress. It is fitted with a 3 Ampere fuse and I replaced it with a 10 Ampere fuse.
No problems further on and my little pump is doing it's job to give me a good night's sleep ;)

I've blown several acc socket fuses with electric air pumps, typically 5A, but I even blew a 10A fuse once. Aggravating. These little pumps sometimes have VERY high startup current requirements. If you can get to your battery, its not a bad idea to carry a set of jumper clips for your pump so you can wire directly to the battery.

I did wire the pump directly to the battery on the Honda Varadero I had ...................... but the acc socket on the S10 is much easier to use. No problems so far after fitting the 10A fuse. ;)

The socket is only rated for 2.5A max load. That's why they use a 3A fuse to limit overload. Probably the wiring to it is either not heavy enough guage or too long length or the socket is switched through the ignition switch and may cause the switch contacts to burn if overloaded. All conjecture on my part, but adding a 10A fuse although fixing the fuse blowing problem, you are overloading the design and have potential for other problems.
Without looking at the wiring diagram or the wiring, it is hard to say whether the circuit and fuse are sized consistently or Yamaha was just being ultra-conservative with the fuse.

Thanks for this info. Yamaha charge me 26 dollars to install a new fuse and could not tell me that it was my air pump from last year that did that... Thanks a thousand time for all the great info guy's. Toyamaha.

26 Dollars!!!! ??? ??? seriously saw you coming.. Fuse replacement is in the user manual supplied with the bike and is easy to do with the bikes toolset page 6-29 in the uk version.

You have the fuse in the wrong spot. Everyone knows it belongs in the clutch switch. ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025::

Mr. F
Please keep an eye on the wires for that socket with the larger fuse. Ive seen this done and then the wires got really hot with a pump on it... If they kept going there might have been a big problem.. When I came across this I opted to install another marine plug on the other side with bigger fuse, bigger wire to take the load... Just because it now works with the bigger fuse does not mean it was designed for that or is safe.... Just for fun info :)
