I think i have seen people try to pull and clean the filter before but i dont know the process. So saga continued. Once again after having been to main Yamaha dealers and new coils fitted. Couple of days later starts running badly again. Took it back independent dealer i brought it from. Who whet over everything again. Finally pulled fuel pump and striped it. Found fuel filter was almost completely blocked. Filter cleaned pump rebuilt. Bike is now running an absolute treat. Even better than when i first got bike. This appears to be an issue with Yamaha's as he has previously encountered the same problem with MT07 & 09. Very poor design that fuel filter is not separate from pump, considering cost of a pump is £640.
Yeah the filter is easily replaceable. It's just press fit. I removed mine and cleaned it without any issues. Getting the pump out of the tank is a bit fiddly.I’ve got a new filter laying around that is going in this winter when servicing my bike. Also dealers over here say the fuel filter isn’t separate. Can only buy complete pump. Fortunately uncle Ali in China sells the filters separately. Good to hear you’re happy with the bike now, go enjoy!

In Europa they do also, but not all gasstations have clean tanks. Now and then gunk gets in. Had it more than once. The premium gasstations are usually oké but the cheap unmanned ones can give problems. And we’ve got the ethanol based crap nowadays which gives more then 1 problem. My oldtimers handle it very bad..Where is all the dirt coming from ? Fuel pumps in the USA have there own filters to prevent pumping crap into your tank.
The replaceable filter is the pump pre filter, the main larger filter is not replaceable except as a complete pump assembly. It can be back flushed. BWC did a write up a long time ago, pictures may be gone now.Yeah the filter is easily replaceable. It's just press fit. I removed mine and cleaned it without any issues. Did not know that there are two filters on/in the pump assembly. Learned something today.
