i need help....without going into the shitty details i "disconnected" one wire off of each of the fuel pump plug and the fuel sending unit plug located under the gas tank.

can the plugs be repaired? reconnecting the wire. if so what is the process? i tried just shoving it in and taping it up...no dice.

can the plugs be replaced? if so, from where? the best my search could come up with is part SBC2W.

i appreciate any help.

You probably broke off the little tabs that keep the metal end locked in place. Special tool required for disassembly, LOL, as you found out. Somebody will link you to a site where you can get new wire ends that will then lock in place. Not sure of the wording for a search, it's come up before.

i've got the plugs fixed - took them apart and soldered the fittings. now the fuel pump doesn't come on and the entire fuel gauge is blinking. Any ideas? :(

screen shot of wiring schematic of pump and sender connections from manual check to see if you have the wires to correct pins
Manual also suggests checking fuel pump relay

Good luck with your search

i checked all fuses. i checked continuity at the connectors. i'm not getting power to the fuel pump plug. i "hot wired" the pump to the battery and the pump ran. i don't really understand the relay testing method explained in the manual. does anyone?

but it mist be the relay - right?

Have access to another bike to borrow relay and test that way? It's about a $50 canadian part likely needs ordering in by dealer or your favourite online parts place.

We spoke on the phone, but I think it is important to throw my theory out in public for support/criticism.

We determined that both of the BLACK wires from the connectors were the ones that pulled free. These are the "grounds" so what I theorize happened is that the black wires got damaged further down in the harness as well as pulling out of the connectors.

This would make sense as both the gauge AND the pump are showing signs of hate.

Check continuity from your connector blacks to battery negative.

Let us know what you find.

fixed it....the colored wiring harness in the manual does wonders. my suggestion for when the going gets stupid - take a breath, have a beer and re-evaluate.

Now he doesn't want to talk. At least it continues that the only things that seems to stop this bike are owner induced faults rather than manufacturer designed. :)

If he doesn't answer soon I'm calling. He called me with the problem, I'm calling for the resolution!

Acts like this will not be forgotten! ::025::

hahahahaha - coastie - that was the best i was thinking the same thing.

the bike is great. AC - the flash works great. yesterday i put on about 80 miles in the forest. in the forest i kept it in T mode most of the time and what i noticed immediatly is how smooth it is. on and off throttle in the sand, mud and over trees is amazing. S mode on the road is super fast and surprizing.

back to the problem. i had the power to the pump wire crossed with the gauge wire. (ac those where the ones that came disconnected - not the grounds). a couple of deep breaths and looking at the colored wiring diagram helped figure it out. i soldered the plug connectors and with all of the riding yesterday they are still connected.

thank you all for your help - happy fathers day!!!
