Anyone experience whistle from front end of bike at speeds between 45-55mph ? Stock 2015 S10 with windscreen in full up position. Doesn't seem as pronounced in full down position but still noticeable. Do have side winglets installed and noise was noticeable prior to there installation.

Re: Front end whistle

Yes I did and thanks for reminding me. I lowered the windshield and the whistle was gone... or was it when I removed the OEM side cases.

Re: Front end whistle

I still notice whistle with windscreen in full down position but not as pronounced. Don't have any luggage as of yet. Did forget to mention have OEM skid pan and engine guard as well. Thought possibly could be coming from threaded inserts on upper front end of engine guard where I assume aftermarket lighting could attach.

Re: Front end whistle

I notice even without helmet, definitly coming from front nose, headlamp, windscreen area of bike. I believe noise others are speaking of at low 1st 2nd 3rd gear almost idle to light throttle speeds is air box intake noise which I don't mind either. This very audible whistle comes in at around 40 mph and audible up to 65ish before it diminishes. Believe it to be more body panel induced and not mechanical music others speak of.

Yep. I've gotten so used to it, that it's a familiar part of the bike. If it was suddenly gone, I'd think something was wrong!

I worried about it at first. Tried pulling in the clutch at speed, still there. Put on my old helmet, still there. Moved the spoiler around on my MRA windscreen, still there. Starts around 50mph, goes away at around 65mph. I think it's definitely airflow around or through the plastic on the front end. If a gust of wind hits from the side, it disrupts the sound momentarily.

I've now grown to love it, and ::021::

Re: Front end whistle

In 52K+ miles my 2012 did not have a whistle. I had added the plate below the headlight on my 2012.

From what I can see the differences in the front of the 2012 and 2015 is the windshield, the plate below the headlight and the new wind diverter plate behind the windshield.

The new wind diverter plate seems to be thin and flexible.

:) All of our thoughts and ideas and someone will find there is a zip tie that is causing the whistle. :)

Re: Front end whistle

I never noticed a whistle in over 34,000 miles on my 12 and 14,000 on my 14. I do have good earplugs, though. ;D

I'm definitely hearing something on the '15. I have a MRA screen and Wasp adjuster, so not windscreen related if everyone else is still hearing it. I though it might have been my helmet, but not if everyone else is hearing it. I'm guessing it's the little piece of plastic under the headlights.

DD, I notice we have the same helmet and I hear a whistle/siren-type sound sound at speeds over 70mph. Never notice it when wearing my RX-Q.

Riding home the first day with the stock windscreen in place I'm pretty sure the noise I heard was the helmet. I base that on holding my hand up to block the wind around the helmet and the noise disappearing. Since then I've changed the wind flow on the bike with side deflectors, and a bigger windscreen. Now I hear a noise that sounds something like the noise you hear when you get on the brakes pretty hard, but hearing it when the brakes are not in use.

Not worried about it. Just getting used to the sounds of the new bike.

I've heard the 2nd Gen engines have less mechanical clatter so maybe that's why I don't hear the fairing noise so much. That, my AltRider skid and a worn front knob could be masking it too!

Re: Front end whistle

I have a pretty good set of ear plugs. Rare for me to notice much mechanical noise on anything I'm riding.

I like it that way.

Re: Front end whistle

Glad to read that others are hearing a whistle.. I never heard it on my '12 but do hear it on my '15. Thought maybe it was my imagination and was hesitant to bring it up. I am going to ride more and worry less.

Re: Front end whistle

Gonna start checking the new parts for 2014+.

Had the new plate under the headlight on my 2012 so I am guessing it is not that.

Going to put a piece of tape on the new plate behind the windshield.

Re: Front end whistle

Mystery whistle solved ::008:: source of noise is coming from top edge of plastic surround that bolts around headlamp assembly. Applied 3/8 foam weatherstrip around top edge of each headlamp. No more deer whistle although maybe perhaps that could be a good thing. ::003::

Good find Wyo. So what is Yamaha going to pay you for finding the fix for their error ;)
