Found a neat spot for my EZ-Pass

Someone else may have already found this spot but I am pleased with it.
Painted it black with Plasti Dip spray. Used the super-strength Velcro that comes with it and some zip ties to hold it in place.
It blends pretty well with the rest of the sundry black dashboard stuff and is tucked in nicely.
Food for thought for those of you who have it sticking out in plain view and are concerned about it getting lifted easily.

I'm assuming that EZ-Pass is for tolls? Around here only cars are required to mount the stickers with an RF "chip"; although all toll road users are issued the stickers with the "chips". For the most part, the chips are not used....plate readers take a picture of the back plate and assess the toll. Seems like a waste of money for the sticker/chips.

Yes. It's for tolls.

My Maryland EZ-Pass work in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia,West Virginia and North Carolina.

We have the plate readers as a back-up. (Not sure if they hit you with a surcharge for not using the EZ-Pass.)

You did a good job of hiding it. Is it the zip tie on the left side? I use FastTrak in California.

If a rider will be traveling in your states... is it worth purchasing the EZ-Pass?

Yes, our toll rates are more if you do not have a tag/pass. So, tomatocity, "I" would get the EZ Pass. Once again I am assuming, but our tags do not cost anything. If you don't use it, it does not charge you, but the tolls for no tag is about 40% higher. Our system uses license plates as primary, and tag as secondary. Y'all might want to verify that a bike even has to have a toll tag affixed. I had contacted our toll authority, because I was concerned about somebody steeling my tag, and was told about the motorcycle exemption.

I zipped it with two ties (in addition to the industrial Velcro) and it is on the left side along the cockpit support frame.

Getting an EZ-Pass is recommended over on the East if you travel NJ and NY (can't say about further North).
I have it for the PA turnpike which I travel many times a year.
Not too many toll roads in MD (except for some bridges/tunnels near Baltimore or the Chesapeake Bay Bridge) unless you plan on blasting on Rt 95 to the north.
MD has a $5 toll on 95 as you leave. Kind of our way to give you the finger as you exit our 'wonderful" state.

Let us know how well the toll readers like that location. I have mine dual locked to the back of the windscreen down near the bottom of the screen. Reads great and if necessary, I can still read the serial number to a toll attendant.

Got my easy pass a few years ago, had to give the license number for each vehicle I wanted to use it with and pay a $20 deposit with credit card , the savings and not having to stop make it very well worthwhile even though I very seldom use toll roads. I'm kinda surprised they can get away with charging extra for folks using cash. Friend that has easy pass claims he seldom gets charged when using motorcycle, he thinks it's because the cameras have a hard time reading his plate number on the motorcycle, lots of times he is using one of those luggage carriers and yes it blocks his plate and turn signals, I'm surprised he never gets pulled over.

About an inch above your EZ-Pass is a horizontal groove. My garage door opener fit perfectly with some velcro and a zip tie just like you did. I guess great minds think alike :D.

I took two horn straps that have a hole centered in each end, painted them black, then removed the suction cups off of my Sunpass and used a nut & bolt and connected the horn straps to the Sunpass. The fairing behind the windscreen (2015 Tenere) pops off and I simply slid the other end of the straps over the pegs and replaced the fairing. Simple!
It's been riding there now for over 60K in about all weather conditions with no problems. -JEP-

With a tag, everything is digital. With no tag, they have to mail out a notice with a picture of your plate; theoretically it cost them more with no tag. Son #2 claims he can ride between the ground loop sensors to avoid the tolls. But of course I have no knowledge of that. O:)

I would suggest re-mounting it. I'm also in Maryland and never had a problem on the Gen1 bike, which had two velcro strips on the inside of the windshield.

With the Gen2 bike, I've put it in my jacket breast pocket and on the fairing where it was to the left of the instrument cluster, so it's low and more edge-on to the readers. While most of the toll stations will pick up these spots, the EZPass did not register in one lane of the Dulles Greenway so that the gate stayed down. This summer there it didn't register in NJ and NY a few times which led to my getting mail with three bills that included about $150 in fines.

The Gen2 now has velcro on the inside of the windshield and has had no more problems.

You were fortunate to have it happen in NJ and NY. 2 years ago if you were caught in the Hot Lanes around DC it could have cost you well over $10K for such an offense. Now with their "First Time" forgiveness policy they won't charge you any more than $2,200 for missing a toll...the first time.

I use my Smart Tag every week day, but I stay the hell off the Hot Lanes.

And here I thought I was being crafty - I'm not feeling too good about this now so I moved it.

Check out this below, Checkwrecks (and others, of course).

Re: Looking for input on this EZ-Pass transponder location on my bike

Will I get good reception here as opposed to behind the windscreen?
Under the black cowling just below the screen (Yamaha logo was removed to get access for the install).
