my bike is 16 months old with 11,600 miles and the right fork started to leak. I have the YES plan.
Question: are the fork seal repairs covered by YES?

Typically, these items are considered wear items BUT, your dealer is your advocate so work with them on it and see what happens.

Many folks with FJRs have had fork seal replaced under YES, including me. If your service manager will go to bat for you, it will likely happen.

I would try a seal doctor first mine started leaking around same time as yours replaced bought seals and wipers myself it was only a small amount of sand that got past the wiper that caused the seal to leak only needed cleaning

My FJR had a fork seal leak at 49K within about a month of the YES running out. Dealer tried, but was not able to get seals covered. YMMV

::026:: on the Seal Mate, used them a couple times and stopped the weeping.

the dealer said sorry but it is a wear item so no warranty YES is applicable. My trusted mechanic has said the same and he ihas ordered the parts. Meanwhile I will be testing with a "seal doctor" fix.

BTW, my offroad rides have been minimal, basically a pile of backroads some of them not in the best shape. Any suggestion for fork protectores?

I imagine the dealers generally go to bat for the customers on these things so the lack of coverage is probably coming straight from Yamaha. Is there a warranty document that lists specifically what is and isn't covered?

Try cleaning the seal with some film or a thin plastic card. I've had great luck.

and/or fork protectors from Ride-on-ADV

My dealer told me that both seals going at the same time is always denied as a user issue, but one seal has a good chance of being covered under warranty.

I have Kriega fork protectors, but the Super Ten forks are too large for them and they crack. www.kriega.com Kriega has been fantastic and sent me two sets of replacements, which I have applied sun screen to as per their suggestion, but they still crack. The set on my wife's BMW F650 Twin have not cracked. (tiny little fork tubes). I love the product, price and customer service, but I think I'll have to break down and order some Noj Fork Guards next and see if they hold up better. Similar design and cost. http://www.nojgear.com/NOJ_Neoprene_Fork_Guards_p/fgnl01-01.htm

I would find another dealer, Several owners, two that I know personally, have had their leaking S10 seals replaced under warranty. Two different dealers in the cases I know personally and I have read reports on this forum of others having theirs replaced under warranty.

I have the same setup as Rocky - kind of a 1-2 punch in terms of fork/fork seal protection. I've found after reading a lot on the topic of seals that you greatly reduce the chance of developing premature seal problems by simply taking care of them.

Jaxon's fork guards help keep the area out of direct contact with dust/dirt/mud and the Shock Sox (rally sponsor, btw) keep it from coming in contact with the fork wiper/seal once past the fork guard. Of course, neoprene covers like this are only as good as long as you maintain them. It's really a 5 minute job to remove all the bits to remove the Shock Sox after a really dirty ride, clean them in warm water, then let 'em dry overnight and slap them back on in a couple minutes the next morning.

I would look at 12,000 miles in under a year and a half to be hard to justify as normal wear and tear...I'd be bouncing among dealers if possible should you get the "Sorry, not covered answer". But, it might not hurt to just try the seal saver products either, or just take a few business cards or 35mm film negative and give it a shot first.

Amen, Fred! Amen! ::008::

The dealer can get it done if he wants to.
