Hi, all:
Thought I'd fill a tiny bit of this rainy Saturday with the installation of my Kaoko cruise control, which arrived yesterday. The installation kit comes with three washers which the instructions say are to be used when installing with the OEM heated grips. I can't seem to get the cruise control installed whether using these washers or not; no matter what, when I tighten the bolt for the bar-end weight, the throttle binds immediately. Even when I back the Kaoko friction nut all the way off before tightening, it binds.
A couple questions:
1. The instructions say to insert the thrust washer inside the handlebar tube prior to fitting the Kaoko kit. They do not specify whether the smaller shoulder of that washer should face inside the handlebar tube or toward the friction nut. Anyone know which is correct (I tried both, and neither improved the binding problem). The photo on the instruction sheet is very blurry, so I can't tell if the smooth face of the thrust washer should face into the handlebar or away from it.
2. I assume the three provided washers are to be placed inside the handlebar tube, to provide an earlier stop which pushes the Kaoko kit away from the handgrip. Is this correct? However, again, whether I placed the washers inside the handgrip, on the outside of the bar end, or didn't use them at all, the same binding problem occurred.
Am I missing something really obvious here? The installation instructions are very, very simple, and this should take about thirty seconds, I'd think. I'm reluctant to add additional washers, as I'm not sure the bolt would then have much thread to grip to hold the whole thing together.
Thanks!
