There's been mention of this in other threads so I figured I'd toss it up and see if we Floridians could put something together.

Sure our asphalt's flat-and-straight, and our dirt's made of sugar, but we still ride - and at least in the rural parts there's some great scenery.

So what say you?

I'd think something somewhat rural and centrally located with some on and off-road offerings - in the vicinity of Ocala maybe?

There should be something around there that would offer camping and cabins (for us city-dweller types) that don't have all the camping gear. And, if we're going to do it, maybe hit it before it's 1,000 degrees and the bugs take over...

Just tossing it out there for consideration. I'll be happy to help organize, but I'm not greatly familiar with that part of the state.

What do you guys think, could we pull this off?

Sounds like your on to something! Let's do it..... just not in the heat of a Florida summer.

What city is that you dwell in?

We need our own event. Something similar to people arriving from all over to eat a Moonburger. Where is a good eatery that we could gather at?

The Yearling in Cross Creek used to be OK but both the service and food quality seem to have deteriorated lately IMHO.
The Blackwater Inn in Astor is is not bad...
Gator Joe's in Lake Weir is decent
The Front Porch Restaurant & Pie Shop in Dunnellon is pretty good
BBQ Bill's in Chiefland, deep fried bacon ::014::

How about you folks? Where is a good eatery to congregate?

That's a great place to eat, glad you showed it to me a while back. I thought that a more central eatery might attract more participants, but I'll ride 'most anywhere.

I'm down in W. Palm Beach so anyplace this far south is out. I have no problem riding up to the middle of the state for a gathering.

I'm in the northeast corner of the state - I'd say as centralized as we can get would draw the most participants.

Do we want to do a lunch gathering or make a weekend of it?

I suggest an overnighter with a diner event. Some folks may be traveling a couple hundred and may not want to rush to lunch, eat, and run home. Dark of night and campfires go together.....

I'm in the same boat as Jaeger22, I'm in and out of town a lot with business. May 12th or later is best for me. Due to time constraints I will probably only be able to make it for 1 day regardless of how long the event is. Maybe a lunch event for the first time and once we get some practice at it try for a weekend deal?

OK lets makes some plans. I will toss this out just to get some ideas rolling.
Meet up 9:00 AM, 25 May at the Osteen Dinner. (Small town North and East of Sanford on 415 and the dinner is a regular stop for locals bikers) Get coffee and a light breakfast and make introductions. Then head across Maytown road, through Turnbull Hammock to Oak Hill. From there turn south and out to Cape Canaveral on Kennedy/Courtney parkway. Turn back east to Titusville and then North on US-1 to New Smyrna and then cross over to the beach. Turn south and go down to JB Fish camp for lunch. That is about a 90 run, not counting what it would take each of us to get to Osteen and home from JB's. Or we could cut out the cape loop and save 45 miles, or add in other loops.
Too short? Too long? Goldilocks? :)
Any other ideas, dates, locations??

::026:: on the Osteen Diner. Note that they take only cash, no credit/debit cards. You will probably eat too much there.

The route sounds good, BTDT, as well at the lunch spot. That's Memorial Day (observed) weekend and I may be doing the family thing, but I'd like to take part. If the wife has to take the holiday shift on Monday the 26th, I'll be spending the 25th with the tribe.

Hope we can pull something together.

Looks like it will work for me, just checked the work schedule and could go Saturday the 24th as well if need-be.

One question, is any of your route dirt? Gotta bud with a Street Triple that may tag along...

The location and route sounds great. My only thought is as Maxified mentioned its Memorial Day Weekend. Traffic may be a bear to and from the IP and during the ride. Also tough for some folks to get away. My 2 cents worth.

I rode out in the middle of the state yesterday (Sat) and the love bugs are out in force. Took 2 1/2 hours to clean the bike!

Darn Donk, I didn't even realize it was Memorial day weekend. ::) How does the next weekend work for all? 1 Jun??
creggur, no I was thinking all road so bring your friend by all means. Let's make any others welcome (Maybe we can convert them to S10 riders! :D But Ken over in Merritt Island knows some great trails just east of Titusville. So if some really want to do some dirt. maybe we can talk Kenny into leading a loop over there. I am OK with that but last time I followed Ken around, it took me a week to get all the mud off! LOL :))

If it stays on a Sunday I'm pretty much wide open as far as scheduling - so the weekend doesn't matter to me. Saturdays get a bit trickier as I'm on every three weeks.

Basically the location and route are great for me, and any Sunday will work...

I vote we save the dirt for our second event - we'll make a weekend of it in Osceola or something like that. Lets just keep it simple and actually gather somewhere for this one...

Thanks to Jaeger for really getting the ball rolling on this thing - cant wait to meet you guys!

Well darn again. :( The wife just reminded me that we are riding to Savanna that weekend to meet with family.
How about we move it up to 17 May? (Saturday)

No matter what date is scheduled someone will have a conflict.
I've got a conflict for the last week in may and the 1st week in June but will attempt to work with any date that is scheduled.
Let's lock in a date soon so folks can get their plans in order.

Thanks for taking the initiative here creegur..... now pick a date! ::025::
