My 05 FJR was very hot (exact temp unknown) when new but now is cooler. still warm though. Don't know if you can compare the two but some racecars use coolers and fans on there diff's.vilageidgit said:
There might be a temp difference if the bike as more use/mileage verus a new bike with low mileage. Lower temp, high mileage vs higher temp, low mileage.roy said:
I've had two other shaft driven bikes, a 2002 Kawasaki Mean Streak and a 2010 Triumph Thunderbird 1700 (still have the latter). The final drives all get quite hot, no material difference from my S10. I haven't ever checked the diff on my truck after a long drive, but imagine it gets hot too. That power lost to a shaft drive (versus chain or belt) has to be going somewhere, and the somewhere is friction that results in heat. But, just like pistons in the engine, the final drive is made to handle that heat...just change the oil with good quality stuff from time to time.vilageidgit said:
