Considering how close the various skip plates are to the oil filter, I'd be pleasantly surprised if there were any skid plates that don't have this interference issue.

I just performed my fenderectomy so I thought I'd throw up a few photos. I have the FE and the SW-Motech skid plate.

I spent some time under the bike measuring, eyeballing, comparing angles, etc. and finally decided that I was comfortable with the clearance if I removed about 1" from the FE. This preserves about 80% of the total length/protection of the FE.

I also wanted to duplicate the general curve of the bottom lip of the FE with my cut line to make it look unmodified. This was pretty easy to do by first tracing the outline of the curve on a cardboard template, cutting the template, placing the template about 1" higher on fender, then marking a cut line. I used a cutoff wheel on a Dremel to actually make the cut and then cleaned up with files and sanding blocks. Unless you look very closely, it looks factory.

Good luck with your fenderrectomies.

I think I get more use out of the fender extender than a skid plate
Has anyone actually busted up a tenere because of not having a skid
plate ? I may add one in the future but I will remove fork caps so I
can check full travel of suspension and modify skid plate according.
Whacking the bottom of my motor is my main concern not the front .
Take a look at what I did to my Altrider skid plate last September......http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2252.msg37747#msg37747

I can't imagine what would of happened to the motor without a stout skid plate.

Yep, no damage to my H&B but I have had huge hits while riding briskly in rocky trails in CO., mostly from big rocks being deflected up. I can miss MOST baby heads, but there is always that ONE!

I was able to get the FE off my wife's bike. It was held on by Goop glue and the provided two sided tape and little screws. I worked a screwdriver between the FE and the fender and it all came off nicely. That also gave me a nice template to hold against mine to draw a cutting line. Dremel did a nice job cutting off about 1.25 inches. So I do hope that change, plus the extensions I built and angled a little more towards the engine take care of this issue. I'd like to think of this no more.

I have not noticed an issues (so far) with my Fender Extender and my Altrider skid. Guess I better go take a closer look, but I have bottomed the front suspension a number of times already.....
So can we say that the Altrider skid plate will not catch on the Fender Extender?

And will the OEM yamaha skid plate work with the Fenda Extenda?

No issues with Altrider skid plate and the Fender Extender. I've also bottomed my front a few times.

The OEM Yamaha Skid Plate works just fine with the Fenda Extenda, and the vise versa.....
No clearance issues, no heat issues, does what its supposed to do.....

This was the info I had been looking for. I did crack the oil sump cover on mine by flipping up a brick sized rock with the front tire which then wedged itself between the ground and the sump cover. I ordered the OEM skid plate yesterday.
I had the sump cover welded and was back on the road, but also ordered a new cover.

Hi guys,
It's been some time sice you cut off an inch or so...
What is the verdict? Did it work, any problems?

I've recently bought the Pyramid Plastics Fenders Extender with a SW Motech skid plate...

I didn't have any clearance problems with the SW plate and the extender. I've now got the ACD plate and a different colored fender w/no extender.

It will rub on the oil cover when doing extreme off road. It doesn't break it like others, but you will see a rubbing mark on the back of the Fenda extender.

With the full coverage the ACD gives me I didn't feel the need for an extension like I did on my previous plate.

I've run many off road miles with this combo and although it didn't break like others, it does rub against the oil filter cover on the plate. This happens about 1.5 inches up from the bottom of the lip of the extenda and it's very slight. If you are running forest service roads, you'll probably never see it rub.
