Bummer to hear dirt dad. I am glad the local PD is helping out and being good. Any photos of the lid? We find a lot of stolen stuff on craigslist. Post a photo of the helmet, size, and where it was stolen from so we can check CL while you are on the road.

Thanks, Joe. Don't have any pics I can post. It was just a plain all white Scorpion EXO 500 (large). The Bluetooth was a Sena SMH-10. It was stolen in Damascus, VA.

If I understood the Lt. correctly, even if they got the guy it could require multiple trips to court for us to identify the helmet. While I would love to see the perp punished, the idea of driving 6+ hrs each way, plus the cost of lodging each time makes pursuing justice very unappealing.

It would be interesting to find out if it is a local leech that greets the many different kinds of tourists through Damascus similarly. Given the location, I'm betting that it is a way of living for the jackass.

Maybe. The local officer speculated it was probably a druggie looking to get a quick score for his next fix. He called a local pawn guy while I was sitting there. Said if someone came in with it just delay him and give a heads up to the Lt. and he would run down and take him into custody.

The police now have the helmet and bluetooth. Someone found it rolling around in the back of his pickup truck. He dropped it off at the police station this morning.

The officer speculated the bad guy put it in the pickup truck and the truck drove away before the bad guy could get back to it.

My wife has a theory there were two bad guys. One guy watching for us, the other grabbing the helmet. I had a very uneasy feeling about a guy I saw out front of the restaurant. After placing the order I wanted to go out and check on the bikes. I told my wife I was going out to grab my reading glasses, but really I just wanted to look at the bikes. Her speculation is bad guy #1 warned bad guy #2 I was coming around the corner and he ditched the helmet in the truck. I failed to notice if her helmet was there at the time.

It's all speculation. The police have no suspects. The good officer is going to pack it up and let us know what it will cost to get it mailed back. The Lt. has been very helpful and I really appreciate all his efforts.
