Thanks for the thread, MidlifeMotor. I enjoy these discussions. In a way they make me feel better that I'm doing what I can to be safe out there and I've lowered my odds.

I routinely do the weave whenever someone can pull in front of me. I enjoy parking lot exercises to sharpen my skills. Never drink and ride. Never ride from dusk to dawn. And if I find I have a tailgater I rapidly shake the handlebars to the left and right. Feels fine to me, but to the tailgater it looks like I'm out of control and about to crash. It's funny to watch how far they back off after that. Scares the hell out of them. :D

I agree with just about everything that has been said in these replys. After 17 years on the department and over 10 years on Police Motors, education and experience go hand in hand. Practice makes perfect and a person needs to practice safe braking techniques away from traffic. I also have worked many, many fatal and non fatal motorcycle accidents. Most could have been prevented by the above. Motorcycles have come a long way since the days of my riding Kawasaki Police 1000's and I have used my ABS more than once in the last three months. It saved my bacon for sure. Ride safe, ride with a helmet and above all practice, practice, practice...

Am I the only one who finds that funny coming from a LEO?
