I'm in the bang for the buck, don't get to use extra fuel capacity often camp, and use two 1 gallon fuel cans when fuel availability could be an issue. I haven't been fortunate enough to need them on any trips with the Tenere yet, but they have come in handy in the past on other bikes I've owned.

I've been looking at fuel bladders for a different application, and have been researching the following:

http://www.atlinc.com/rangeextender.html They will make custom sizes smaller than the 25 gallon+ tanks on the site.

http://www.huskyportable.com/fuel-bladder-tanks_id115.html Haven't checked with them about pricing on their tanks yet.

http://www.fuelsafe.com/index.htm They make an additional fuel cell for the Can Am Spyder... might work.

http://www.interstateproducts.com/pillow_tanks.htm They make custom sizes, but we'd probably need to do a group buy!

I had been looking at:

http://liquidcontainment.com.au/category/12/Motor-Bike

There used to be some at JustGasTanks.com but all of the smaller ones are no longer shown there. Also, at one point some came up on EBAY, but I am not seeing those now either.

I don't see any dimensions either. I did find some mention of them on various forums and such and all comments seemed favorable. I think I'll shoot them a message and ask.

You need 13 of them (the 20 oz capacity bottles from REI) for 2 gallons (what I think I am targeting for extra volume) and they are likely scattered all through your luggage and gear so getting at them is a job... and not a nice thing if it is raining.
I don't know anybody who messes around with 20oz bottles. The ones typically used hold 33 oz and four of them gives you a little over a gallon. They seal well and I've never had an issue with fumes. Having said this, I keep them in the pannier which has camping gear, tools, spares, etc., and not with my clothes, food, or sleeping kit.

I agree that they're not a good solution for serious range extending.

Here's another option that is collapsible, but not suitable for multiple time use:

At this point I am leaning towards the rotopax. Two 1 G containers mounted underneath the Jesse Oddysey side cases, one on each.

There is a 4th option.

Try and plan your YT/AK trip to join up with other Super Teneres that are known to have extra fuel and bring candy bars to trade if needed.

I'm going with two 1G RotoPax containers mounted on the panel under the pillion seat.

I have found that for serious terrain it may be worthwhile to keep that area free for your butt in steep descents or on loose surfaces. I already had to move my Jesse top case back from where I originally mounted it, and I may move it again or lose it altogether after I got whacked in the butt by it last week on moderate terrain. The farther back and down you can get your backside, the more control you will have in these situations. Otherwise I would be there in a second, as it sure seems the obvious place. Just my thoughts... I'm no expert, that's for absolute sure... and I do see many riders with the pillion area loaded up.

Twisties - not sure how you will go mounting the Rotopax on the bottom of the Jesses - they would need to be well tucked in for cornering clearance, but then how much space to you have before they interfere with the wheel/swing arm?

Taking another tack - the Touratech jugs look reasonably priced (for once $17) and I like the dimensions, but then they want $50 for a mounting plate. Anyone with other ideas for mounting?

I've got a customer that installed the TT units. I think this is what I'll end up with, or build aluminum tank for the inside of the right bag.

Honestly, I just got done building a tank with my students for a project bike and I don't think it would be that difficult. I would say it just needs to fit in an area that wont interfere with whatever you need/want to use the bike for. If you want someone else to build it, make a card board (non corrugated) scale model of what you want, the less cuts the better. Just me two cents.

I asked for the dimensions for the 3.5 litre and got this information.

Hi Tom,
Correct measurements are below.

3.5 litre is 265mm wide x 380mm high
4 litre is 330mm x 410mm
7 litre jerry can is 380mm x 460mm
8 litre is 390mm x 450mm
12 litre is 430mm x 450mm

conversion to inch

3.5 litre is 10.43" wide x 14.96" high
4 litre is 12.99" x 16.14"
7 litre is 14.96" x 18.11"
8 litre is 15.35" x 17.72"
12 litre is 16.93" x 17.72"
