consistent, continual tension everytime it is deployed is worth the extra $40.00 for me.

that along with better (*best*) materials that will long outlast the Kaoko also are important to me.

My decision to go to use throttle lock is usually when at speed. My Kaoko can be a bit of a circus act to tighten on the highway a cruising speeds. Construction materials not withstanding, a lever (toggle) engagement to a pre-set friction will be much safer for this S10'er.

Don't tell Camtex that... ;D

And I agree about the Kaoko. I'd used Throttlemeisters and Kaokos for years and years, and for all that time resigned myself to that was the best one could do short of a true electronic or vacuum cruise control... That is until I was pointed to Tom and the Excel Cruise. Now the Excel gives me an all new standard. So much so I'll be happy to sell my mint Kaoko that I had on my S-10 prior to the Excel.

Anybody interested? Make me an offer... :)

Thanks for bumping this thread guys. I shot Tom an email as well to get one ordered so I have it before June. I used a Vista Cruise for my SS1000, and while I liked it when it worked, it was tough to get it to stay working.

I liked my Kaoko on my Wee, never had any trouble and it performed as it should. What do you want for yours?

Looks like they go for somewhere between $120 and 126 online... I think I got mine from AdvDepot, but that doesn't matter.

Mine is mint, though it does have about 10,000 or 12,000 miles on it, maybe more. Can't remember how many I had when I got the Excel.

Make me an offer. I'm a reasonably guy. I've just never sold a throttle lock off the bike before! ;D

(Note: I am leaving early in the morning for the weekend, and not sure what kind of internet access I'll have, so I may not respond until Monday, whether here or to PM)

Normally I would say I would give you all you asked ::025:: but as you haven't asked for anything I will offer $50.00. I do believe the Kaoko will outlast anyone on this forum. Can't imagine wearing one out. ::003::

OK, folks, a little thread resurrection here...

I couldn't be happier with the fit, finish, and quality of materials of my Excel Throttle Control. It's a true "work of art" just to look at, but the best part is it works even better than it looks, and has required no maintenance or upkeep since I got the finalized pieces. In addition to all that is Tom Dowell himself. His customer service is exemplary, and he is dedicated to making the very best product he can. I discovered that as we went through all the detail changes during development.

I agree!!

I went ahead and ordered the Excel Throttle Control from Tom. It arrived Monday and after getting turned-around a couple times in the directions, I managed a successful install. (Don't read too much into my confusion. I can sometimes find directions for a light switch to be a bit overwhelming...) The design is pretty slick, the alignment is straight-forward, and the operation is pleasantly simple. I just sweep my pinkie finger over the knob to engage/disengage the lock. No more of those split-finger gymnastics that my old Throttlemeister required. Since the install, I've managed three rides during which I was able to employ the Excel unit and it has worked flawlessly. The unit is robust and I don't see any potential failure points. I can recommend it with confidence.

There's nothing I can add "photographically" that Dallara didn't cover earlier. And thanx, Dallara, for the info -- it helped me decide.

That is all...

Anyone have any experience with this Excel and aftermarket bars? I see it replaces the factory bar ends, I am just concerned it won't interface nicely with my MSR expanding bar end hardware.

::022:: ::022:: ::022::I got my Excel throttle control installed on my super T tonight. It is a very nicely made unit, rocksolid and easy on . I sent an email with with my one dumb question, and Tom was back to me in no time. It was worth holding off for the final development of this product. Kudos to the forum and to Excel.

I think Dallara should get a commission as I too purchased one. I got it installed Monday evening, but wasn't able to get a test ride in before my current work trip. It was a bit diddly, and I think Tom's instructions could use some pictures, but overall it's a quality piece of kit.

I also ordered one from Tom and received it last week, there is a lot of engineering in this thing!! First class quality, first class customer service, very happy with it. I will be posting up a short install and riding operation video in the next few days.

Thanks to Dallara for sharing this product with us. ::003::

Received mine from Tom yesterday and installed it. It'll take a bit to get used to using my little finger instead of my thumb on the others I've used. The big thing is, I don't think I'll have the throttle creeping closed on this one.

A nice bit of engineering.

These are really nice. Great quality and engineering.
Installed mine yesterday, took all of 5 minutes.
Instant on/off throttle control.

okay fellas - I talked with Tom a coupla times this weekend.
I can't seem to get the thing to work.

Question??? (*and probably an obvious one, but alas, not for me*) -- Does the rubber grip actually touch the ETControl?

I read and re-read and RE-RE-read x10 = the enclosed instructions and I am not getting the
"Tap the end of the unit fully into the plastic throttle tube".
If I do that - and then tighten down everything I can't even deploy the throttle stop.
I haven't fully pulled out the large aluminum screw that is supposed to go inside the throttle tube...
But if it goes in the part that states in the directions that is supposed to affix firmly inside the tube won't even be inside it.

H E L P ..! Pictures would help..

I have it un-installed now .. but might give it another go if someone that has recently successfully installed it can
walk me through it

I thank you in advance

I don't mean to sound rude in any way, but honestly... The installation is about as simple as it gets. :(

What kind of bars are you using? If not stock, what kind of bar inserts, and what kind of bars? If so, what kind of grips, etc.? What about handguards? A bit more information from your end could help with the troubleshooting...

And have you look at the pictures in this post?

http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6898.msg117535#msg117535

I was involved in the prototype development of the Excel for the S-10, and even the very first developmental one I got went on without a hitch or drama... As did all the different developmental pieces Tom sent me as the design progressed. Sorry you're having trouble.

Sorry you are having issues Hannabone, but thanks for bringing this up. Dallaras link to the original thread hit the spontaneous purchase button in me.
