ES or Non ES

So I'm now really looking to get my first s10, it's likely to be a year old rather than new and I'd like to get the newerror version but do I look for ES or Non ES? It'll get ridden 90% on tarmac, mainly gravel strewn back lanes in Wales with the odd gravel fire road thrown in. To give an example there is a 2014 ES with 8k on the clock for the same price as a 2015 Non ES with 2k on it.

Get the ES, it does not matter what road you ride on, the UK roads are borderline 3rd world roads anyway. Better resale and has grab handles, center stand and rear rack, not to mention heated grips, next question?

Can't say fairer than that budd! I can't believe.Tamara sell a big.bike that is used as a world tourer without pillion handles, or perhaps everyone else does too and I've not tried to buy one of their bikes new!

I had the non ES and now have the ES and Love it!! I find that I really appreciate being able to make those adjustments as I ride depending on the road. For me well worth it!

Having bought the Non ES version, I probably spent more than the difference in price getting heated grips and a centrestand. Buy The ES version

My non ES has all those things except the heated grips?

ES offers a useful range of adjustment on the fly. It's also complicated, adds weight, and expense. I'd put it to you this way: when you buy a car do you tend to go with the full, top-of-the-line option package or do you tend to like the simpler versions that are better priced?
That's likely more predictive of your happiness here than comparative stats. Either one is a good bike and either one can likely go just about anywhere. If you are buying used and looking for value tho the base bike may be the ticket, ES demand is strong which can made the base bikes sell for less.

The only thing that stopped me from getting the ES when I bought my bike in 2014 was the color; I hated the gray. If they had offered the ES in blue that year, I'd have one now. It would be nice to be able to adjust the suspension on the fly when I have a passenger, or a passenger and a loaded bike. Weight of the ES option wouldn't have been a consideration for me, on an already 600 pound bike hauling two people with gear. Based on the fact that I ride year round, the heated grips would have been nice, too.

When I recently purchased my 2015, I liked both colors.

The price difference was $1500.

I knew most of the time I would be riding solo, and maybe only a top case.

The heated grips AE available for purchase between $220-$399 online. Install is not too hard.

Also considered long term expense of maintenance and or issue of the ES.

I kept reading the initial reviews of the GEN1 bikes, and how all reviewers commented about how much they liked the factory suspension.

I have never had ES, so knew it is something I wouldn't miss since I never had.

Finally, even after purchasing heated grips, I would still have $1000+ available for necessary things such as hard aluminum side , crash bars, skid plate, etc.

Wanted a mile munching, comfortable upright bike with cruise and all the goodies for long trips. My 2015 ES fills the bill. Like the flexibility. At Rallies with my BMW brethren I unload the camping gear and panniers, hit a couple of buttons and ride the twisties. For me the ES is definitely worth it.

Thanks for the feedback all, once I've sold my Strom DL1000 I'll see what is around, bearing in mind I only ever tend to ride on my own as the Mrs doesn't come out much now I wouldn't need to change the suspension much BUT it'll depend on whether I buy new or not, if the deal is good I'd buy a new ES but most of the low mileage Non ES around have all of the extras that come with the ES, I'll decide when I've got the cash to buy! Thanks again

'never have a DL1000 but I did have a DL650 for a while there, the S10 is much more capable. Oddly, the
Madstad bracket seemed to be the most important aftermarket bit on both. 'Congrats.
