HI
I have 1200 miles on my 2013 S10 .
The engine was always very noise, but i was hoping that with the time it will get better .
I cannot drive with open helmet ... :'(
Is this normal for a S10 ?

1200 miles is about 5000 shy before it loosens up. Grab some earplugs till then ;)

Yes the Super Tenere is not a quiet engine. I agree with Karson... use ear plugs if it bothers you. I have 43,000+ miles on my 2012 and find it noisy on startup and the rest is the sound of my smile.

My thoughts.....
If the motor is making enough noise that you need ear plugs, something's wrong. See your dealer, at least get there opinion, see if they think it's normal or if they think you have a problem. One shouldn't need earplugs because of engine noise, not even on the Super Tenere.

Also, if you have a skidplate the engine will 'seem' to make more noise.

I'll second that. I once thought I had a major problem...... Turns out I had gravel in my skid plate.

OP's question is rather vague, so I expect there to be a lot of opinions until more information comes around.

Maybe the OP isn't used to a big twin.

If you do bring it to a dealer, I'd be interested to hear what their diagnosis is on a new motor with 1,200 miles that's known to be tight coming off the crate.

Yes, its difficult to diagnose if there is an issue or this is just the rattly sound we have come to expect from this engine. I noticed the rattle early on but 10K miles later I'm not worried...it would have blown by now.

Maybe i just exaggerate, maybe the problem is that the exhaust is not loud enough the cover up the engine noises, maybe because there is not a radiator in front of the engine . i had a yamaha raider and the 2 in to 1 big radius exhaust was so laud that i could not ear anything else.

I found that the engine noise dramatically increased - or should I say my perception of it did, once I put on an adjustable windscreen and the winglets. The reduction in buffeting meant for a quieter ride, and hence a noisier engine....

You got any oil in that thing? J/K

I dunno, it's always tough from videos. The noises SOUND "normal", but it is tough to tell if they are LOUDER than "usual".

It's under warranty, right?

I found this video from back in the day when I first got my Tenere and thought it was a slow starter:

You can hear it's not very quiet either.

I agree with that was said above. Hard to tell via a video, but I'd say that your motor sounds exactly like mine.

You can probably see the odometer in that video. If it's worth anything, that same odometer now reads ~33k and it is still a rattle-box!

I can swear I heard new engine noises day after day. I still do, just don't pay attention anymore. There are so many people with +100k km, so why should I bother with only 32k.
