Ok ok. I'm loving the challenge. Will be up to it if work allows a fairly leisurely approach. (I can commit to 500-600 mile days. But I'm not stronger than that)

And, of course, I need to set up my requisite tire staging. No problem running K60's on the travel leg. But I want knobby for playing in the dirt. Are we playing in the dirt? Lol

Maybe I need to re-read the thread. :) I really just wanna come eat all of Lukes food. Run up the tab real high.

Thanks for the encouragement.
1515 miles to Ivins Utah. (Eric, Alvin Tx start point. Love Rockport, but not where my mailbox resides)

Barely an oil change interval, for the whole trip. :)

I couldn't remember if it had come up before, so just picked a random spot in "Coastal TX". Less than 200 miles off, not too bad. ;D Doesn't change the overall distance much. The boring route is always an option too. You can stage a tire at my place, we would just need to plan your arrival in time to get to the local shop for a swap, or break out the tire irons. They only charge me $11 for a tire mount and balance, so I don't do my own. There's a place in Henderson, (Motorcycle Tire Center), that rocks for tires and changes. Just never know how busy they might be.

That is a more direct route. I deliberately tweaked the route for a more interesting ride. And well, I've been to Clovis and Gallup. Clovis is not so bad, pick up some peanuts while you're there. Gallup, less of a place I'd want to stop in for the night. BTDT, will try not to again. :D Bonus, that route does avoid Midland! ;)

If I can stay fired up about this, it won't matter, the route. I go into focus mode and just count by tankful's. Boredom is not the enemy. I don't bore on 2 wheels. It's just old bones I have to manage. :)

Tire irons? Oh hell no. There are folks out there trying to feed their families changing my tires. I'm happy to give em the opportunity.

At 66 I understand old bones. Being out of shape is worse. I can ride 500 miles of back roads and feel alright but 500 miles on freeways pains my knees, shoulders, and neck.

Looking forward to Destination: Las Vegas. I am taking two days to get there, Monitor Pass, 395, Death Valley. Staying an extra day for more LV area riding. Riding to Death Valley, 395, Kernville the next day. Tehachapi Loop, Soda Lake Road, Morro Bay the next day. Not sure after that.

A more aggressive tire would be the best but would BattleWings ride well on this ride?

Joneil, You knowTwo Luke is in on this date also. As it gets a little closer, give me a call and we can work out the food and beverage details, and maybe a local watering hole we can finish at, giving us time to tell a few more "Tall Tales" over an adult beverage. It sounds like it's working up to be a great day for a Las Vegas ride!

Snakebitten, it's a long way buddy, but would love to see your old bones out here . . . and you know, me casa es su casa (that's Spanish, by the way ;-)

If any of you attending need a place to crash, I have a couple of couches and a guest bedroom, or we can all have a slumber party at Joneil's house - hey, that might be even better!!!! ;-)

See you all soon. Luke

I've been a little busy with work and family stuff but we are getting close. The date is set. Unless we change it again. We have a definite route. We have our food and beverage director. We have a chase vehicle. Heck, it's Vegas, pick any bar for the after ride.

I do have a guest room for anybody that needs a place to stay.

If anybody has changed there mind as to their expected attendance, please let us know. It would be really cool to get some more riders. I offered to let MRS. Boondocker (Cheryl) Ride with my wife in the Hummer. If anybody else has a passenger that might rather ride in a cage, there's still room.

I'll keep posting updates as we he closer.

Chris and Kay, very good. I've already told my wife to expect company in the truck. With Kay, we will have room for one more person in the cage.

You know, all my calendars show the 6th of April to be a Sunday... Did I read Saturday mentioned a few times?

How about updating post #1 so somebody doesn't have to read three pages?

Don, that's a great idea. In fact we need a good idea man on this adventure.....I'm hoping you can make it.

Here's what we have so far.

April 6th....which I have confirmed is a Sunday (thanks Don in Lodi)... is the day of the ride. We will be riding Mormon Well Rd in the Sheep Range Mountains just north of Las Vegas, NV in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge at Corn Creek. Google it...... If you see a link to www.birdandhike.com check it out. It's a great site with a lot of valuable info.

My wife will be driving the Hummer bringing the food and beverages which are to be arranged for by TwoLukes. TwoLukes will also be orchestrating a riding clinic entitled, "High Speed Parking in a Mesquite Tree: Super Tenere Style!" Complete with demonstration......don't be late for that. Also in the Hummer proving moral support, Cheryl (AKA Mrs Boondocker) and Kay (Mrs Christoforos). That leaves an open seat for Two Lukes, post demonstration.

I propose we meet at the gas station at the corner of N Durango and Farm Road. It's way out north just off Hwy 95. As you head north, exit N Durango, go RIGHT and you can't miss the gas station on the right. It used to be a Mobile station but I think it's a USA gas station now. Either way, it's the only one there. Easy to find (call me if you need better directions). Lots of room to rally in the parking lot and it's on the way to the ride, no matter which way you're coming from. We will meet at 9:00 AM. Kick stands up as soon as everyone is accounted for. If you have a last minute change of plans please call or text me. I'll list my number below.

We will ride out to the ranger station and visitor center. Sign in if you want to...it helps with their funding. It's a nice facility...if there is any interest we can tour that property before beginning the ride. Once we get on MWR, we will make a few stops. This will not be a race, but if the group is going too slow for you, feel free to ride ahead. We will all get to the campground eventually. There are a couple of turnoffs, but all you have to do is stay on the main road. When you get to the campground you'll know it. We'll gather in that area....we'll probably have the place to ourselves. Lunch will be served and eventually, we will make the return trip. From there we can stop at a local watering hole for drinks. This will also give us a chance to coordinate our alibis.

At this point you will have fulfilled your Sunday obligation....you may go in peace.

Here's a list of who I expect to make it, so far..............

I regret being no more than "penciled" in. But I'm pressing down harder on that pencil as you so eloquently describe the ride. Especially the Two Lukes riding clinic.
Some of the best things in life require long hours of effort to acquire a fleeting moment of treasure.
