So Texas Yamaha in Webster, (south of Houston near NASA) called me to tell me the Yamaha truck just arrived and is unloading 2013 models for a Demo day tomorrow and Saturday.

Bring helmet. Bring gear. Bring license.

And go rip on a new FJR or Tenere! :)

I'm skeard to ride the FJR. But I got to go see the White Tenere in person. Don't know why though. Not a chance in h3ll I would part with my PERFECT farkled 2012.

Well, I gotta be honest. Color matters more than I ever thought.

Had a couple of diesels trucks in the yard that were being underutilized. So I take em down to my old time Ford buddy to see if I can get a fair deal for them. We fought for a while, cuz he just loves to!

When he got close enough, I said yes and he wanted to know what I was trading them for. Long story, but I was looking for a lighter family ride. Comfort, not power for work. So I decide on an F150. Had 6 or 7 colors to choose from and the wife overrode me (white) and wanted a silver. We compromised on a black one.

WTH?

I don't even drive the thing and it gets dirty. I could wash it and STILL not drive it and it got dirty. The dew made it dirty.

First payment came due and I drove to the dealer and whined and cried about how many times I had washed the dang Black truck and I haven't driven it.

He just laughed.

I said, "you aren't listening to me. I can't wash the thing all the time. I don't even care if my trucks\bikes are dirty, but in Black it BEGS to be clean.

He laughed again.

So I did the math in my head. Estimated $30 a month to keep it clean using MY elbow grease. 30 x 60 = $1800.00

So I tried one more time. I told him the math. Said I would give him $1800 for a white paint job.

That got his attention. He asked if I was serious. I asked him how long have you known me?

Took the white one home. Didn't have a payment due for 47 days. So I went 90 days with no payment.

Guess I like white. My wife says I am boring and predictable. After 30 years, she would know. :)

So maybe I SHOULDN'T go see the white Tenere?

I have the black and always ride black bikes. Just sent my salesman a target price on a white. It may take 9 months to get down to the price (and it may take less) but he knows when it does to call and I will own a white one.

Why.

Because I like it! ::013::

It's valentines day and I just got home to steak and lobster.

Maybe they aren't complaining. :)

Doh! Snakebitten that is funny. Best you don't be speaking with any ol' time buddies at that dealership when you throw a leg over a white S10 tomorrow. Besides just a little paint and you can have the same aesthetically pleasing ride with current marriage, and yours comes pre-farkled. If and when you do any mental calculations during the course of events, factor in those farkle replacement costs or wrenching time to swap 'em over. Not to mention anything of the depreciation on the 'ol girl versus the noob. Just sayin...

I like white. ::008:: In fact, if they would have had a white one when I bought mine, there would be a white one in my garage, instead of the blue one. . . I think I better stay away from them until that demo ride truck leaves. . .

I survived!

Rode the FJR. What a cadillac. REFINED is the best word for it.

And yes, the white one was purty. But to tell ya the truth, my dirty, muddy, world traveling looking 2012 model drew a lot more attention than the demos. It had that "Been there done that" look to it. The new shiny one looked naked. And some of the unknowing standing around didn't even realize my Blue was the same bike as the white one!

The two "older gentlemen" who are running the demo rig are really nice guys. One of them rides an S10. The other a KLR. They took a lot of pictures of the farkles and hadn't ever been to the forum. So now they have all that info and they might show up around here.

As far the FJR. All during the ride I was asking myself to be honest. If both bikes were sitting on the porch in the morning, which one am I most likely to mount?

Love the bike. But it would sit too much to warrant $15k.

How was the seating position of the FJR ? Was it closer to be more touring (Goldwing) or sport ( Nija) ? Me just asking is a bad thing...

After 20,000+ miles on a Tenere, it felt much too sporty in ergonomics. Loved the bike. But don't want to go back to narrow bars, high footpegs, and a slight forward lean.

I'm spoiled.

I'm 6'1" and heavy.

All the new bikes are so tiny. Compact. They are getting so advanced, which is fine. But I'm hooked on this Adventure stance.

I really like the white with the red stripe too, but have the same daily commute issue with dirt & I seldom get a chance to use the hose. My thought is the new FJR color would look equally awesome with the bright red splash:

Hmmm... only 4 parts need to be painted to get this color on the Tenere - 3 if I leave the fender black like they did with the FJR ....
