Based on this sentance in the letter, the early order numbers might be a little sooner:

"Based on the most recent production and supplier updates from Japan, we expect to finish
deliveries of Super Ténéré PDP orders by November 30, 2011."

If they intend to finish by Nov 30, the question is when will they start.
Thanks Fred... I love how " finish deliveries of Super Ténéré PDP orders by November 30, 2011." turns into "They won't start 'til 11/1".

Actually... you could look at that in a positive manner... everyone will have their PDP orders by 11/30... Heck, they may start sending some today or tomorrow... very doubtful they'll send them all on 11/29.. LOL

I have been trying to learn that skill for 55 years, I hold no hope that this is gong to help any! :-\ It is easy to loose sight of just how well off one can be until you are faced with a calamity. Again there's zero chance that I am going to drop out on the bike. I have been hoping for such a bike for several years and I am not willing to take a chance that the Super Tenere could turn out to be one and done. There are no guarantees that it will be offered again if sales are bad.

I view that as unlikely, but if true, I don't think this is necessarily a desirable thing. Orphaned bikes don't keep their afterr market support and parts availability and servicing long-term become more difficult. Just ask owners of the GTS1000 and TDM900. It's great if you want a unique bike that you don't see everyday, but if you want a big-miles traveling machine that is robustly supported, the more out there rolling around the better.

Guys, let's not make buying a Super Tenere a referendum on whether you are selfish or not, nor whether you support the disaster victims in Japan. They are two separate things and honestly, the best way to help the disaster victims is to send them money directly (as I have), not buy a motorcycle.

Totally, I'm not upset with Yamaha at all and in fact the tsunami is part of what steered be to the ST in the first place as I was already in the market for a new bike and figured they needed my business more than BMW or Triumph but it just isn't going to work for me now since I'm not sure where I'll be when it finally arrives. I'll still buy one at some point and I feel Yamaha has handled this really well considering the situation.

I just got off the phone with my dealer, they won't hold the bike till May because after 30 days on the floor they start getting charged interest. She made me a really good deal to begin with so I understand why they don't want to be in the bike any deeper. So I am taking delivery in Nov.

The dealer did suggest that if enough of us send emails to Yamaha that they might be willing to make some concessions, for those of us who wait. Maybe extended warranty or some accessories at low cost.

I don't know how to feel about that, it's not Yamaha's fault that the bikes are late arriving, but it's not mine either, if I was in their shoes some goodies at cost wouldn't cost them much and would create a lot of good will. What do you guys think?

Although anything is possible, I wouldn't hold out much hope that Yamaha is going to make any major cost or "goodie" concessions at this point. Given the info that Yamaha has provided, I think making assumptions of an early shipment before Nov is probably not warranted either. And unless you can work out something with an individual dealer to hold your bike for a period (with flooring expense to them), you're going to take delivery in Nov which means paying for it then and starting the warranty then.

So the bottom line on whether you stick around is whether you still want to buy a new Tenere in Nov for whatever price you and your dealer have agreed to. I wouldn't assume anything else in your decision.

As per earlier information, it appears Yamaha is going to give us another five weeks or so to consider things. More info may come to light during this time. And hasty decisions are often bad ones. I think the best thing for most of us to do is to 1) make our summer plans assuming no bike; and 2) wait through May to see what other information comes to light.

I just received the letter. Not sure if it has been uploaded on this thread. Told my dealer that I'm waiting for the S10 and will drive my DL1000 for the summer. ^-^

Well all this is rather disturbing to me since first reading about it late last night. I tried to sleep on it (it actually kept me from sleeping) and today I have decided I am "in it to win it" if that means November 2011 so be it. I called my dealer and we discussed my options and I told him I would stick it out. We even discussed a new KTM 990 Adventure as a possible replacement and I said no way I am not jumping to a KTM over a chance to own a fine Yamaha. ;D BTW the KTM was much more expensive and would likely be much more of a problem on down the road like to the 1st oil change ::)

So I have decided to go buy a new 2011 Suzuki DR650SE (most likely get it tomorrow once we reach a deal) and completely deck it out with Happy Trails Teton bags, skid plate, pro taper bars, cycra handguards, 4.9 gallon tank and go ride my summer. Sure it won't be the fastest smoothest thing out there but it will get me to work on the cheap and on a few trips I want to go on. Once the Super Ténéré gets here I will either keep the Zook or sell it. Not to sure right now depends on how much I fall in love or out of love with the DR. :)) I have a B-king right now but it serves only one function, haul ass!!

I like your plan, but boy, you're going to take a hell of a hit when you try and sell a six-month old DR with all the trimmings. You'll have $8000+ invested in a bike that will be lucky to fetch $5K when you sell it. Your situation seems ideal to buy an already farkled used bike.

Having just sold my extremely farkled 07 DR for less than $4K I agree completely. Many, many, many, under used, low priced, well farkled DRs, DRZs, KLRs, XRLs, ... out there. Or you could get a nice classic like an Elephant or something and make us all drool a bit.

+1. Somebody would end up a winner in the end if you bought a new DR...sadly it won't be you. Your time horizon for ownership definitely dictates trying to buy used, since few of the advantages of buying new apply to such a short ownership duration.

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2009-Suzuki-DR650SE--98366513 Brother Roy: Mark, switchback and Venture are right; you're going to take a serious beating on price when you go to sell. Phoenix, AZ has tons of Suzuki DR650's for sale used at less than $4K, some for much less!

I'm with these guys, there is a nice clean used one down the street from me, it runs like new for $2300, you could ride it for a season and loose nothing.

Well I have looked for a used one and it seems there are none to buy right now. Close by that is. With gas at $5 bucks a gallon I am not for traveling too far for a deal or any deal. I let a few nice ones slip by a few weeks back wishing now I would have jumped on them. I agree I will not make any money on a DR but in the past I have parted bikes out and done okay. I most likely would sell the DR stock and part the rest out recovering the most I can get out of it OR just keep the darn thing as it was. Either way I need a reliable and relatively cheap bike to get me by through my summer wanderings. In a perfect world the S10 would be here in 30 days time and I'd be riding it but we all know that is not the case.

I just spoke with my dealer, and there may be some ways around this. It depends on your dealer, and how you are paying for the bike.
If you are paying cash, the dealer may or may not have to title the bike, and if it is titled, the dealer can wait to start the warranty until the bike is out door.

If you are financing with Yamaha, or GE(I think), this would not be possible. If it is a local bank or credit union, you may be able to start payments but the dealer may be able to hold off warranty. These are all possibilities, but you would have to work out with the dealer. As I'm paying cash, he will wait on the warranty until the spring if I want.

If Yamaha is paid, I really don't see them raising a stink about when the warranty will start. Within reason of course.

OK. I just went to visit my dealer. He knows nothing .... nothing .. about any of this. Phoned his rep .... Western Canada. Nada. Has heard absolutely nothing from Yamaha Canada. He did say that Yamaha Canada indicated that they would be coming out with an official statement early next week. Beats me. Hide and watch, I guess. I'll let you know. R

My dealer just called my home and read the letter verbatim. Same as what was posted here. It's confirmed.
