Decel Popping

Although my bike is running extremely well following the addition of the Gen 2, LV pipe, and aftermarket air filter, I have found the popping on decel to be a bit bothersome. I even had a guy on a Harley look around to see where the noise was coming from when I caught up to him on the highway. I've been reading various posts that suggest this is normal with an aftermarket pipe. I've reduced my CO settings back to 0. I was at +3 and +6 but it didn't make any difference. I have changed the TB to 270 deg CC as was suggested in other threads to improve performance. Is there anything to be done to reduce the popping or is this a product of the aftermarket changes I've made.

Start with the inexpensive and find an air leak. Gasket, clamp, torque,...?

Decel popping with a straight through muffler is typical.

Are you running any quiet insert? I find mine either pops less, or I hear it less with the turn down installed.

I just last weekend installed an LV SBK and ran into the same situation. I ended up running it with the turn down installed as well.

I may pull it again this weekend and put some permatex copper exhaust sealant on the joint to see if that helps.

Edit: I almost always use permatex on exhaust connections, but the connection was so darned snug I didn't think I would need it on this one.

I like the idea of inexpensive first. I did find the clamp could be tightened a bit. Haven't had a chance to ride it afterwards but I will report back. Thanks all.

It's not the gasket.
It's the bikes ability to exhale better...
Don't like popping? Put the stock can back on... It's that simple :(

I have the leo vinc carbon can with stock headers . I noticed with the
clutch switch mod on I get a lot of decell popping that goes away when I
turn it off .

Straight through pipes always seem to pop in my experience. I think they pop with the standard pipe but you just can't hear it. I understand it doesn't cause any damage anyway. Years ago on some bikes we heard stories of burnt valves but not for 20 years. Just ride it

I have Arrow headers and after fitting them could hear the odd pop, I still run the OE end can so it is quite well muffled, most the restriction is in the headers anyway, so if you have removable baffles for your end cans you may as well put them in as it will reduce the popping and make little (if any) difference to the performance.

I also think mine started popping a bit more post flash, but can't be certain.

Tightening clamp helped a bit but still a definite pop. Not terrible. I suppose the flash along with LV can will be a factor. If a decel popping is the only price I pay for improved performance, I'll take it. As long as there's no damage being done to the engine, I will just ::021::

I pulled the pipe and sealed the exhaust with permatex yesterday evening and waited 24 hours for it to cure. I just went out for a ride and the popping is gone, replaced by a nice burble on decel.

I'm running Arrow headers, no cat, GPR open slip-on, and I pop noticeably on decal. BTW, I dynode 86 hp stock, 74 with header, can, and DB killer insert/turndown, and 90.something all same without the baffle. I got a "1 7/8" ID muffler turndown" from Autozone for $7.03, cut some extra length off with a chopsaw, drilled a hole for a set screw, and gave 'er hell. Tho still noticeable, the sound is now totally unobjectionable, and even at 4-5,000 rpm, the engine is louder than the pipe.
