I have sort of an update. No solution, but a path to a final solution. I telephoned the Yamaha Techline, 1-800-879-0078 to report the problem to Yamaha directly. I would encourage all of you having the problem to do so soon. When you get a live person, they want to know your store number. Don't worry about it. The Techline is set up for dealers to report problems but they will listen to yours and ask what the dealer has found, etc. The next step after calling them and giving them your name and contact info, is to go to your dealer and strongly encourage them to report your problem to the techline.
Yamaha works on basic numbers. I'm sure they know of the problem, but won't do anything until all the wheels squeak loud enough to where thy recognize they will have a big PR problem if they don't do a recall.
I also went to my dealership this morning and told them I wanted it fixed in polite, but firm tones. They have no idea what the problem is, but I suggested they keep beating on Yamaha until they figure out what the problem is and fix it.
Mine has recently started to cancel even while I'm at highway speed in cruise control with no touching of any controls. If you are sleepy it will surely wake you up when it cancels at 65mph. You also don't really want anybody riding on your tail when the cruise control cancels at highway speed.
If anybody learns anything through Yamaha, please respond to this thread.
