I'm going to go way out on a limb here and hazard a guess.

I'm going to repeat, this is just a guess translated to feet and inches!

Based on the production capabilities published on their website, it looks to me that the material is 1.0"x.065" tubing. That works out to .65 lbs per foot. I'd estimate a minimum of 20 feet, maximum of 30 feet, so that works out to 13 to 19.5 lbs.

Even if they use the larger diameter tubing (1.25"x .049"), the weight is about the same at .63 lbs per foot.

Then you need to add mounting plates and hardware, so round it to 15 to 22 lbs.

This of course is posted by a member called "tubebender". I have faith that he has the facts.

I noticed the hole in front of the oil filter and don't think that is a good idea. I would put a plate over that and take it off to remove the filter for an oil and filter changed.
The whole setup looks good, and would probably do ok in a get off, but it does look heavy.

I agree!!! And does anyone have an idea how this weight stacks up against some of the other bars on the market? Altrider, SW-Motech, Givi, Hepco-Becker, OEM

Doh! Not one us has put that question to Altrider or Twisted Throttle. Well, someone should know soon enough.
I 'm waiting for mine from Altrider and they did say they hoped to start shipping this week.

I had asked about the weigh on ALTrider bars and was told around 10lbs. That was pre production. I will do a search on my post on ADVrider and see how close my memory is.. lol

Guys, I also need some bars as I have no protection on my S10 apart from the little plastic moulding around the oil filter. Give me a day or two and I will go visit the factory called Rollbend, since they are only about 10kms from me. I will enquire about the bars and provide some feedback if you want:
1. Weight
2. Type of steel for tube frame and skid plate
3. Finishing(paint) options, does it need to be black?
4. Mounting points of skid plate to prevent sump damage
5. Ease of removal of side covers
6. Mounting points for Auxilliary Driving lights
6. Discount to this Forum Members and shipping arrangements possible.

Any other questions or info that you require? Perhaps I can ask them to post details onto our site?

Please let me have your concerns, questions and I can try to represent our interests.

Best regards,
Andre

I phoned Deon Lak from RUMBUX Adventure products that is manufactured by RollBend, and had a nice chat to him. His bars are still in process of being finalised i.t.o design, but a number of it is already fitted and he welcomes feedback. Deon assured me that he will have a wider version available that will allow one to remove the side covers. The current version will allow you to remove the radiator cover by loosening the top mount part of the bars and it is apparently quite easy to do so!
Following is the response I got from Deon: deon@rollbend.co.za
This product comes complete with a bash plate mounted to our specially designed bash frame. The engine and oil filter is well protected. The oil can be drained through holes supplied in bash plate, but for oil filter change the bash plate must be removed with easy accessible bolts. The main frame is supported on the sides of the bike by directly mounting on to sides of the frame of the bike for extra protection in a side fall or crash. This gives you adequate protection of your radiator on the left of the tank as the fan tends to get stuck in a side fall over, resulting in a fan burn out. Access to the battery and radiator is available without removing the main frame of the crash bar. If necessary the main frame can easily be removed. The product is manufactured out of round tube 25x2mm.

Deon informed me that he will have the exact weight available once he completed the final design and standard specs for the bars. The bars are sandblasted and then powdercoated to be available in a matt black or matt silver finish. I personally like the idea that the bars attach to the chassis-frame and not to the engine in any way. The quote I got from Deon is 2 950 South African Rands, which included 14% VAT (Value Added Tax). Luckily VAT is only applicable to South Africans, so those of you from other great and wonderfull countries should get it for less or at least be able to claim the VAT back.

I will visit Deon tomorrow.

So the way I figure it. 2950-14%=2537 Rands = ~ 368.26 US Dollars (shipping cost has not be determined).

Andre,

Fantastic. Thank you for finding out all these answers. I have emailed Deon a couple of times with suggestions and questions, but not a lot of reply back. I am glad a local can give him tips and ask questions. Looking forward to any update when you have the time.

Thank you again.

Eric

I think it is reasonable, if one consider that it includes both the skidplate and crash bars for comprehensive protection in the same product and price. I am not sure how the shipping will effect the cost to those who are interested.

I have been emailing Deon and he is looking into what it would cost to ship to the US. He asked for a few days to work things out. I wonder if it might be cheaper to have him send several to a location in the states to be distributed from here. If we can get a firm number, it might be worth it.

Yes, and then you may qualify for the "group customs rate". :)

Japako and I learned all about that with our small group shipment of Wasp's windscreen brackets.
