I´m worry about the engine... my last trip i felt down and the engine hit a rock just at the water pump and the oil sump...
I´ve the AltRider skid plate but i need more protection there, but the only crash bars that might be safe for me are de OEM... which i hate!!! (it seems like an anti-roll bars)

This is like what i need ::008::

Cykel - can you calrify - " I just couldn't get past the fact that Rumbux only mounted to one frame tab on either side."

On my Rumbux setup, the upper bars appear to attach to two frame tabs.
Sorry, by frame tab I'm referring to the motorcycle frame. The second bolt (on my set at least) mounted up to a tab on the skid plate frame. That mounting point didn't seem to absorb much of the sleeping forces in my fall.

Anyway, just sharing my experience and concerns. I hope to read more positive crash experiences like yours with the Rumbux because overall it's quite a nice kit.

I have the Rumbux full system, and it is outstanding. I have bashed the skid plate in a few times, but I removed it and banged out the dents. I am crashing and damaging the skid plate less and less as I get some more experience on the bike.

I fell like this: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=9221.msg153380#msg153380 and they did not bend. I dropped my Tenere last weekend in the Monticello Box in some soft sand, and they sustained no damage.

I think the Rumbux is by far the most stout crash bar and skid plate combination you can get today.

I have the rumbux full set and had a crash just like the guy on the dragon video only i was going 20 mph on a flat road. The side of the bike that lowsided only had scratches to the rumbux, no deformation. The side that highsided bent the upper bars in to where they barely touched the radiator cover and it bent the frame tabs. I took it to a friend's house who has a 2 post car lift and with a come along we bent the bars back to almost the original shape. The fact that i had the jesse odyssey bags probably helped as well. Those mounts also required some massaging back into place with a come along on the side that high sided, the jesse pannier had some scratches and was bent ever so slighty but not enough to affect the funtion of the box. It still opens and closes and is water tight.

::026:: I'm with you on that one. The Puig bars make more sense to me. All these crash bars are all about protecting the side panels. But what about the engine ?

Well, unfortunately I'm now qualified to participate on this thread. Intersection encounter w/ hit & run drunk driver. My vector, 35 mph headed north. His was 20-25 mpg heading west. Was hit on my right side case (Pelican Storm), S10 went down on right side and slid 35 ft. Yamaha lowers with Rumbux add-on uppers which got bent inward 3/4" as well as upward 1.25". Right case came off the rack as designed, so on that occasion th right passenger foot peg hinge was ground a bit (clicker still works). Right hand guard and handle bar end are abraded as well. Going to replace with same Yamy engine & Rumbux upper setup.

Sorry to hear that you got hit and thanks for the description and photo. Since you don't describe more, hopefully you pulled through OK.
btw - I use the same drink bottle rack.

Maybe you could start a similar thread in the section about Gear that we wear, and relate what you wore and photos of what damage it took?

I have the Hepco & Becker crash bars and skid plate and laid the bike down once on coarse gravel in 3rd gear. I had to repaint the bottom of the bars since the paint had been scraped off completely, but otherwise the bars were strong and the bike totally fine. The Pelican cases in the back may have helped mitigate the impact. They are indestructible.
Arguably, they don't go up far and don't cover the fan cover, but I always wonder how often you lay the bike down that far to hit that piece

Checkswrecks: Thx for asking. I'm fine. Skinned elbow & knee. Nothing structural. I'll do an "after action crash report" in the Gear section re how the gear worked WRT lessons learned.

Not a real crash but I did manage to dump my s-10 in a very rough paved parking lot while attempting a very tight turn around. I didn't give enough throttle mid turn, the bike leaned down too far for me to catch it and down she went on the right side. The SW-Motech Axle sliders took a lot of the energy and are all chewed up on the right side, wow I am glad I installed these! I was very hesitant to purchase the axle sliders but they proved their worth now! The SW motech crash bars have some pretty serious rash and will need to be painted but they are totally fine otherwise. The SW Motech luggage system avoided any damage and the SW motech top case has a small rash on the rear corner. Again, nothing some touch up paint won't fix. Overall I am pretty happy with the outcome here. I am very certain the right side of my S-10 would have been in bad shape if I didn't have all the bolt on SW-motech stuff.

The bike continued to run just fine on its side until I flipped the kill switch. Picking the bike up was quite a bit easier than I thought it would be. The only other problem I had was the handlebar alignment was knocked off by the fall. Loosening all the triple clamps and giving it good twist straightened it back out.

I was pretty pissed I made such a newby mistake but then again, this is first real damage on the bike and now the precious "Newness" is gone, which I must admit is very humbling.

I've had the AltRider crash bars down at ~15mph into soft sand. No damage, no noticeable bending. Protected everything like they're supposed to. I also run the AltRider bash plate, with pretty good luck so far. I've bounced it off a few tall curbs, and it doesn't show anything.

I would warn that the stainless bolts that came with the bash plate are way too soft for my liking. Even using my torque wrench, several of the hex heads were deformed putting them in. Barely got the tool back out, and had to "extract" one of the bolts when I replaced the hardware all the way around.

I thought the Super - T had a tip over kill swtich??
I thought so too but the engine ran normally for about 8-10 seconds before I flipped the kill switch. Perhaps the combination of the axle sliders and crash bars did not let the machine tip over far enough to engage the tip over kill switch?

I low-sided on pavement at about 15 mph with a set of alt rider crash bars and skid plate. The bars took the brunt of the drop and actually dug up the pavement where they hit. I did snap the left peg and bent up my shift lever, but the rest of the bike came out unscathed. The bars didn't bend at all. I'm thoroughly impressed with the alt rider bars and am just using this as an excuse to upgrade the stock pegs to pivot pegs.

I guess it was a 50 mph high side on ground asphalt. Bars did there job. Not much going to help when it rolls almost upside down. Oem box on that side top corner ground all the way through. Sorry. Didn't get pic. Still started and ran. Handlebars and levers all bent on right side. Ribs still sore but gear did its job. Rug burn on right forearm and road rash on right pinky knuckle the size of dime. Went through decent gloves.

Altrider bars - a couple of 2nd gear drops now off road. Bars a still straight and have protected the bike well.

I haven't bother touching up the powder coating and the stainless construction is not rusting.

I put up a pick later.

I've tested my Givi bars with a drop into a muddy rut from very low speed. There was no deformation of the bars, just a few scratches from sliding the bike over to get the wheels into the rut to stand it up. The pictures are showing the bike after I moved with the ratchet straps. The handle bar was down in the lowest spot of the rut. The coverage of the Givi bars was excellent in this situation. I think with all bars, it would be possible to imagine a scenario where a rock could cause some damage by poking through the cage.

I also dodged a bullet in a separate incident with the OEM skid plate. While riding in a soft muddy rut, I hit a rock that wasn't visible and could feel the jolt on the skid plate. Luckily it was not enough of a hit to damage the engine cases. Definitely see where a sturdier skid plate is needed when off roading seriously.
