I have never been one to complain about my ST's engine vibrations, so I was sort of just reluctantly jumping on the upgrade bandwagon when I ordered a '14 clutch basket. Well, I put it into the engine yesterday, along with the '14 CCT while I was in there anyway.
One ride through the neighborhood made a believer out of me. The engine I was totally pleased with before now is about as smooth as an in-line 4. The new clutch basket is quite an improvement, and if you are on the fence about it, I strongly suggest it as an upgrade.
I looked at the Yamaha web site and could find no mention of the upgraded clutch, but I recall that the buzz was that it had some sort of rubber dampers. Clearly that is not the case, as this clutch hub is just an old-fashioned solid-riveted clutch hub. My guess is that the springs and sloppiness of the old clutch hub was the cause of some imbalance that the new hub does not have.
My suggestion for anyone not yet convinced: Do it. You will be very pleased.
