Thanks for the advice AV.

Burn, I think I will make it on the 11th.

Any one else from SD going?

Airing down is always good when off road, however I would not go to such a low PSI on that tire. I would say 20lb at the lowest. It would not take much for a perfectly aligned rock to peel a tire from the rim at that low PSI. I run K60s and don't run lower than 20-25, depending on the terrain.

I know talking tire pressure is like arguing what weight engine oil on the internet... ::025::

I've never gone below 25psi on any of the tires I've run, worked great!

Just back from a Utah ride. I'm in for the 11th. These bikes are amazing. One guy on the hard trail said " that bike does things it shouldn't be able to do!" 2000 miles in a week and my butt isn't even sore . I love this bike

So my Rumbux is on the way and should arrive tomorrow. If I can get it installed before Saturday, I'm probably in as well as long as I can get the time away from work. I'll be on stock tires and although I got some time on a dirt bike last weekend, still very much a beginner.

What were you thinking in terms of meeting time and place on the 11th?

Whew...what a week. So, still shooting for the 11th, say around 10am at the trailhead. I have the coordinates in the beginning of this thread.

BUT...I have to pick up some furniture this weekend and trying to see if it can be done on Sunday which will leave Saturday free. I will keep you posted.

It will be COLD in the morning up there. The low is 27F and 53F projected for the high that day. I don't know if today's rain will leave any snow/ice up there.

Yeah, was starting to think the same thing. It seems like every time we try to get this thing organized we get denied...weather, illness... Well, I am going to keep an eye on the weather, anyhow. :)

I'm on board with pushing it back, being my first time I would like to remove any possible obstacles such as mud and or water. I will not be available the first weekend of May, 1st thru the 3rd going motorcycle camping.

Sure, no worries if we need to push it back again. The road into Cactus Flats staging area can get iced over and stays in the shade for a good portion of the day (That's the section in the beginning of my helmet cam video) and any ice tends to linger. Otherwise we have to go back down the 18 a few miles to go around that part and use the fire road that links up with it. It isn't an issue if that's the case.

Plus, pushing it back might give others time to come along if they want.

Looks like it is 31F as of 10am and a dusting of snow last night.

I would prefer May as well, as it will give me some time to get some decent dual sport tires on my S10 and play around in some easier trails. Not thrilled with the idea of trying to pull off that ride on the stock tires after seeing burnoil's video.

Trying to decide between K60s and Shinko 804/805 at the moment.

Before my Utah ride I put on a set of Mitas e07's . They did amazing on and off road. We hit snow and mud ,rocks at high speed ,gravel, they were great in all those. Sand still sucks. Let me know if you need info on these.

I'd be open to trying the Mitas e07. Any info you could provide would be great! :)

Maybe we can find some easier trails and go on a smaller run. Let me know. I would offer up Santiago Peak here that splits Orange County from Corona, but it is closed until September due to fire/flood damage.

I'm up for an easier (warmer) trail, but don't know of anything either. Maybe someone else here can suggest something.

Has anyone been to Rowher Flats or Indian Canyon? Looks like a combination of fire roads single track, play areas, etc. But I don't know about difficulty, etc. Is Wildomar currently open?

Wildomar is a fairly small area and you usually find knuckleheads on quads screaming around without helmets while giving their kids a ride. You could ride the entire area in about 45 minutes.

Rowher Flats is not bad to play in, but is also fairly small can get rutted if the rains have hit hard. I recall lots of fist-sized rocks and mostly 2-track trails along the hilltops. I haven't been in years so can't comment on current conditions.

Never been to Indian Canyon...

Re: Cactus Flats (Back side of Big Bear, CA) trip - RESCHEDULED - April 11

I'm considering driving up to hungry valley SVRA on Saturday, work permitting...At least there I'll be able to tell which trails are easy, medium and hard.

If anyone's interested, let me know and we can coordinate but I think its a bit out of the way for a lot of folks here. '

Update: Rethinking this, nearly everything I read about for this OHV area mentions all the idiots on 4x4s driving the wrong way on trails....
