Re: Cactus Flats (Back side of Big Bear, CA) trip - Feb 21

Hah, I was just signing in to say I'm not gonna make it either.
Entire front of my house has all the siding stripped off and won't be plastered for another week to ten days, so I've got a shitload of work to do.

Well, still have bronchitis and now on a different antibiotic along with an anti-inflamatory. Levofloxicin and prednisone. UGH!

Ok, I guess we should re-schedule...push it out a week?

Was just about to call you, Jeff. Glad you saw this post. I don't have much of a voice right now anyhow!

So, let's try to get all of us together next Saturday, the 28th. Sorry it all fell apart. We'll get a ride on soon!

Re: Cactus Flats (Back side of Big Bear, CA) trip - Feb 21 - Rescheduled ?

I guess we are off again for this weekend? High in big bear on Saturday 34 low 19 and snow. I need to get some dirt time on the new tires but I think black ice is a little outside my skills! I will keep a eye out for the new date,I would like to meet the local S-10ers and check out set ups and swap stories.

Ok, I'm HEALTHY! What's a good date to reschedule this for any who still want to go? It looks like there was snow from the last storm (2/28-3/1) ...not sure of conditions in Cactus Flats at this time.

Does anyone know how much snow and rain there was?

I'm riding to Utah and won' t be back till the 5th. Anytime after that is good. But don't wait for me if everyone else can get together earlier. By the way , nice job on the obstacle course, that looked tough on a small bike, but on a Tenere. Wow

Bump.

Is anyone signing in for this?
Are you going regardless burn?

I need to decide if I am going to pay full price for an acd plate or hold out for a sale.

I would like to go, but I don't think my Rumbux will be here and installed by then. I'm also suffering from 0 dirt experience/skills and stock tires.

I am planning to go. Ramping up to move soon to a new house so things are a little busy, but the 11th looks to be open for me. Skid plate not mandatory for this run.

This would be a pretty good run to start learning dirt manners. If you saw my helmet cam video in this thread you can see the general difficulty. There is isn't much to worry about.

Stock tires, if they are Battlewings, should carry you through if you ride well and pick your lines. But, then again, if you are still learning dirt, perhaps a tougher tire would help so less to worry about. :)

Re: Cactus Flats (Back side of Big Bear, CA) trip - RESCHEDULED - April 11

Something that will help immensely when using a more street oriented tire is to air down. I don't remember if I had the Battlewings or the Metzlers as the stock tires, but I found that airing down the front tire about 10psi made a huge difference. I noticed far less of a difference airing down the rear, so I tended to leave it at stock pressure. The only time I remember airing down both tires was when I rode Cinnamon Pass with True Grip and Buelligan.
